Veteran metallers Deliverance performing ‘Weapons of Our Warfare’ at a private Christmas party on Dec. 13th. at guitarist George Ochoa‘s home in California. Fan-filmed footage can be seen in the video below. Also check out the conversation between Metal Priest and Jimmy P. Brown.
‘Weapons of Our Warfare’ comes of the eponymous album, which was released in 1990 through Intense Records, and printings from that release are very rare and considered collector’s items. The album was re-issued in 1998 as a two-disc set along with Deliverance on KMG Records. In 2008 Retroactive Records released a remastered version of the album with the bonus track ‘Rescue’, originally released on the “Decade of Deliverance” compilation.
“Weapons of Our Warfare” was released a year after the band’s self-titled debut. Guitarist Glenn Rogers (Hirax) had left the band and former Recon guitarist George Ochoa joined in his place. James P. Brown II‘s highly technical rhythm guitar style drives most of the album. The band plays with controlled fury at fast tempos. The album marked musical growth with several extended, multi-sectioned compositions foreshadowing the band’s later progressive epics.
A music video for ‘Weapons of Our Warfare’ placed among the top three on MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball countdown for twelve weeks in a row. In 1999, Lars Ulrich of Metallica hosted a show in which he named Deliverance “Weapons…” as one of his top ten favorite metal videos of all time.
Never say die! Deliverance, the veteran thrash band who’s styling’s also have taken them into progressive and alternative territories have opted to regroup once again with a new line up that finds former guitarist George Ochoa returning to the fold. Led by mainman and guitarist/vocalist Jimmy P. Brown II, this latest incarnation also features former Tourniquet bassist Victor Macias and former Crucified drummer Jim Chaffin. Following the release of their last album, “Hear What I Say” in 2013, the Big D was said to be all but finished and headed for retirement. However, speaking with Jimmy Brown at a private Christmas party on Dec. 13th. at guitarist George Ochoa‘s home in California, it was revealed to The Metal Priest that only the previous lineup has been disbanded and that Deliverance in one form or another, will probably never end. It was also confirmed that they have been writing and planning to release a new CD sometime in the not too distant future although no official time table has been set. The band were to perform a very late night set at the party but only lasted for about two songs before police shut the party down for noise ordinance violations, there were many bands throughout the night and Deliverance went on last. Fan-filmed footage of the song ‘Weapons of Our Warfare,’ shot at the party, can be seen below. The new material from the band is said to venture into uncharted waters with heavy influences from Rush, Dream Theater and Pink Floyd.
Ochoa was originally a member of Deliverance during their most successful point in history when they were supporting the “Weapons of Our Warfare” album. Following the breakup of his previous band Recon, Ochoa was asked to join Deliverance and remained with the band through their “What A Joke” release. Since leaving Deliverance he has remained more or less reclusive in his musical endeavors but has since, in addition to rejoining Deliverance, been working on releasing a new album of material under the name of Worldview, a band that contains former members of Recon and former Sacred Warrior vocalist Rey Parra. Their debut album “The Chosen Few”. The album was supposed to be released this fall, but the release is pushed back to spring 2015.
Jimmy Brown relocated back to southern California nearly a year ago which opened the door for the reunion with Ochoa, and is currently marketing a successful line of soap https://lavct.com/ that his wife created to help individuals who suffer from various skin ailments. The product is available in a number of locations around southern California and can also be purchased online. Brown has also been hard at work with his other band Jupiter VI which just released their new album “Face In The Sky” on December 16th, 2014.
Deliverance had planned an acoustic tour earlier in the year but due to a poor response from promoters they scrapped plans and are planning to do some full blown powered up shows in 2015. The possibility of a podcast has also been rumored to be taking place in the coming weeks.
