Los Angeles metal core band Silent Planet will release their debut album, “The Night God Slept” on November 10 via Solid State Records. In anticipation, the band has teamed up with Metal Insider to premiere a new song ‘firstwake’. Check it out below
Vocalist Garrett Russell, who holds a masters degree in clinical psychology, describes the song’s lyrics:
‘The song discusses the disconnect between the revolutionary nature of the Gospel (hope for marginalized people, God’s closeness to humanity, power structures having no eternal authority) and the global perception of Christianity in America (politically co-opted, bigoted, intellectually blind). This theme, which is carried throughout the album, is most explicitly displayed here in a dialogue between Jesus and his mother, Mary, atop mount Golgotha.’

Solid State Records has had an amazing array of influential artists in its history, and Silent Planet is cut from the same cloth. Originating from Los Angeles, CA, the five-piece metal group has shared the stage with hot rock acts Sleeping Giant, Impending Doom, Fit For A King, Wolves At The Gate, and others.
Silent Planet combines meticulously crafted riffs with a wide variety of vocals into a dynamic yet unpredictable sound that fans of August Burns Red, Every Time I Die, Circa Survive, Oh, Sleeper, & Converge will enjoy. Silent Planet’s label debut “The Night God Slept” will hit shelves on November 10th, just in time for the holidays and a busy touring schedule leading into 2015.
