Platoon 1107 – “Respect Is Due 2” – The Metal Resource

I’ve got a lot of respect for the punk scene: the disregard for the status quo, standing up in the face of opposition, blazing speeds and simple melodies that get the blood pumping and the body moving for the greater good. I also enjoy cover albums as it shows a bit of what makes artists tick. “Respect Is Due 2” connects these beautifully as Jimmy Cisco punks out on covers of influential bands to his Platoon 1107 project.

Jimmy is a veteran Marine and channels that duty to country in his patriotic punk rock solo project Platoon 1107, named for his recruit unit at the Marine Depot in San Diego. Started in 2012, the project has released several old school punk and crossover thrash offerings, often through Thumper Punk Records. In 2019, he released his first “Respect Is Due” record that showcased 10 tracks covering Minor Threat, Black Flag, Cro-Mags, Suicidal Tendencies, and others. After a little bit of quiet in the PLT1107 camp, in 2025 he released a single “I Shall Not Live In Vain” featuring an all-star cast of Luke Easter (Tourniquet), Jimmy Brown (Deliverance), Rich Gray (Annihilator), and Fabio Alessandrini (Annihilator). Less than a year later, “Respect Is Due 2” was released on Thumper Punk featuring four cover songs of Jesus Christ Hardcore (JCHC), showing a clear nod to Jimmy’s Christian roots.

Setting the stage, the album art is a Polaroid from the 1980s of the Temple Baptist Church where Jimmy’s father was senior pastor and mother was worship leader. The nostalgia is palpable bringing up images of my own 80s childhood. The four songs for this EP have a similar vintage and influenced a young Jimmy Cisco.

The album starts with “Darkest Hour,” which has all the elements I like in punk with speed, melody, and conviction, but I got more than I bargained for with synths and slightly heartstrung pathos. Great start! “Final Hour” is straightforward punk with a guest spot from the original guitarist/vocalist of Altar Boys Mike Stand. This punk Passion play is really cool, focusing on the victory of the cross! “J.I.G.” is a brutal blitz of crossover thrash roots where Jimmy’s vocals approach rap-speed. The EP closes with “I’m Not a Christian Punk” which stays in this high speed thrashy punk territory.

PLT1107 is a really competent band and channel the original artists well with a little flair of originality. Jimmy’s technical precision on guitars and the right mix of conviction, melody, and everyman quality in vocals is quite enjoyable. Although the playing captures the punk DIY ethos, the production feels patchworked together as a collection of songs wrangled into juxtaposition. Although the run time is under 8 minutes and standard for the genre, you really can’t beat the price on Thumper Punk’s Bandcamp.

At the end of the day, this is a solid punk rock offering that pays respect to JCHC pioneers and well worth checking out. Given the 2025 single and Jimmy’s ability to rope in the big names, it will be interesting to hear where this project goes from here.
