Unfortunately, the band Skin Culture ceased their activities. It became one of the biggest Brazilian names of this new generation of metal/rock, and achieved great tours along with Sepultura, Soulfly, P.O.D., Korn and other great bands. They also worked along with great names such as Danny Couto and Ahrue Luster [Ill Nino, ex Machine Head] and Heros Trench [Korzus]. They recorded three albums and 1 DVD [documentary] explaining how Skin Culture became respected musicians in the music industry.
The vocalist of the band Shucky Miranda, posted the following announcement on the band’s facebook profile:
“I want to give thanks to all the musicians who made part of this family named Skin Culture. To the fans and friends that we earned through these almost 9 years touring; we had awesome moments. I’m sure that few bands achieved so many merits and victories in a very short time. I want to give thanks specially to Sílvio Palmeira and Joannes Andrade and all the family of Casa Da Música, for dedicating your time and affection, besides the expenses with the band.
Unfortunately I, Shucky Miranda, have no patience to carry on. Every band goes through tough moments, financial mainly, perhaps this is the apex on my final decision.
I am no more 20, I have four kids that need my attention. With all this, having to handle the ego of some musicians definitely is not for me, because I’m not a psychologist. The ways that heavy music has taken nowadays do not satisfy me as a good listener of metal music, much less as a musician. People can even label me as an old or old-fashioned guy, I’m used to being labeled by many. But I don’t know anything which has surprised me after the 90’s, such as: Sepultura, Slayer, Pantera, Fear Factory, Machine Head, Deftones, Meshuggah, Skinlab, Exodus, Kreator, Napalm Deaath, Biohazard, Agnostic Front, Madball, Slipknot etc… these are the last bands that moved my feelings.
The lack of respect of the public to this kind of bands is also a main coefficient for me. I would NEVER sell myself to a kind of music that
I do not like, just to make money. Another very important point is what the current “underground scene” has become in Brazil. Skin Culture NEVER paid $1, except the gig with Soulfly in São Paulo [Brazil], which we put the backline for them.
There’s no more respect to the Brazilian bands; you pay, or sell tickets so the promoters are happy with the pocket full of money, while you don’t even have a glass of water and also have to put all your backline to share with the bands that will play. This is a fault exclusively of those who call themselves as “musicians”, who surrender to this kind of humiliation and don’t realize the size of the evil they cause to the true scene of Brazilian music.
I achieved a great part of my goals and dreams with this band named Skin Culture. Playing with bands as Sepultura, Korn, Soulfly, Ill Nino, P.O.D, was enough to satisfy me. I know I can achieve much more if I insist to continue. Maybe in the future, I don’t know – because the person who has music in his veins will never get rid of it.
Skin Culture will play the confirmed shows and finish its activities on December 15th; once again along with Ill Nino in São Paulo [Brazil]. We will release the CD The Flame Still Burns Strong earlier next year and in the middle of 2013 we’ll release a CD of cover songs of bands that influenced me and Skin Culture.
