Norwegian death metallers Extol reported the following:
‘It is now 20 years since Extol played the very first concert – in Sandvika, Norway May 17th 1994 to be precise. We want to celebrate this anniversary with some very few exclusive live shows later on this year!
The last concert Extol did was in Allingsås, Sweden November 26th 2006, so it´s been a while.. We are really looking forward to getting on a stage again, playing both new and old songs, and off course meeting our fans and friends! Waiting more than 7 years is just way too long..! More info coming soon.’
Extol‘s long-awaited fifth album has been released on 21st of June 2013 in Norway, Germany and Austria and on 24th of June in Europe via Indie Recordings and on June 25 in North America via Facedown Records.
According to a press release, Extol‘s new CD “is a like a complex metallic alloy. The playfulness of the songs and the brutal bonding of genres are transformed into a fusion of atmospheric and harmonic prog rock, merged with the tempered thrash and death metal that Extol so uniquely master. This album leads us straight to the core of Extol.”
Comments Extol drummer David Husvik: “‘Extol’ is the album that was planned all the way, but never materialized. Partly due to changes in the lineup, but also because of the band´s urge to always reach for something new. The album is the recap of 20 years of Extolhistory, both musically and lyrically.”
With a long-awaited creative collaboration with Jens Bogren [Opeth, Paradise Lost, Enslaved] and some truly magnificent artwork byTravis Smith [Katatonia, Opeth, Death], Extol has managed to create a timeless masterpiece and the vision of the band seems clearer than ever.
The band has released five studio albums and two EPs. The band is noted for its precise, technical musicianship. The fourth album, The Blueprint Dives, received Spellemannsprisen nomination for best metal album of 2005. Extol has toured the US and Europe several times with such bands as Mastodon, God Forbid and Opeth. Collectively, Extol has sold over 500,000 CDs worldwide.
In October of 2012, we had the opportunity to do an interview with Ole Børud, the mastermind behind reactivated Extol.
