Ho ho ho! Make space underneath the Christmas tree – here’s the ultimate present from musical Santa’s workshop and his RAINFORCE elves: ‘Silent Night’, the third single off the current heavy hitter Almost Holy! Almost Ho-ho-holy strikes as a multi-faceted rock album scoring high on the metal scale with various unexpectedly heavy moments while ‘Silent Night’ shows off RAINFORCE’s groovy, bluesy penchant for which the group has been held in esteem since its 2017 debut album Lion’s Den with such songs as ‘New Jerusalem’ or the first single ‘Feed Me (I’m Hungry)’.
Speaking of prezzies: Filipe “Fil” Guzmán Vicente graces the new tune as a special guest adding fiery guitar leads and solos to ‘Silent Night’. Fil is the guitarist, singer and band leader commandeering both his own blues combo 3G as well as the metal worship band ADORAMUS which also features our very own Jan Thomas on bass. ADORAMUS not only plays in the services of the Swiss Metalchurch but also in that of this year’s Wacken:Open:Air festival.
Love it or hate it but it should come as no surprise that the video clip for ‘Silent Night’ ticks all the boxes of what you would expect for a tune thus titled: an ever so dreamy winter wonderland of lovely glitter and sparkle. But take heed: this song is hot enough to melt all snow and candles, and its message is sure to strip away all that dazzle and vain sheen when the reality of “the real reason for the season” sinks in [as (rain)forcefully as the musical accompaniment]: the birth of Jesus Christ.
If you are fed up with the annually recurring abomination that is seasonal elevator muzak and you favour the down-to-earth, blues-tinged hard rock of the likes of Krokus, Nazareth or Bride, then “Silent Night” might just be up your alley. Mulled wine, cookies, rockin’ sounds and lyrics carrying the timeless Good News – isn’t this just the perfect present?
