Megadeth have unveiled their punky new track “I Don’t Care” as the second single from their self-titled farewell album. That song, which also holds the distinction of being the second track on that upcoming seventeenth studio album, follows in the wake of last month’s lead single, “Tipping Point“. A video for “I Don’t Care” was shot with Keith J. Leman. Elaborating on the track’s lyrical inspiration, Mustaine offered:

“How many times have you wanted to say this to someone? I know you want to! Deep down inside, if we had the balls, we would tell more people, ‘I don’t care’ more often.”

He continued:

“Part of the main riff in this track had been floating around in my head since we did TSTD&TD, so I was pumped to start recording ‘I Don’t Care’ for this LP. I really love the guitar nuances in the track. There is the main rhythm riff, next, a very deliberate down-picking part, next, the octave chords with jump picking on octave notes (while still down-picking!). And the soloing and back and forth between me and Teemu [Mäntysaari] is magnificent!!”

Next year’s final bow from the thrash metal pillar will arrive on January 23rd. A global farewell tour will follow that album’s release, with the touring cycle expected to last roughly 3 to 5 years before Dave Mustaine and co. eventually hang it up.
