Since their inception in 2016 in Linköping, Sweden, Since The Death has existed as a singular vision. Founded by multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Oscar Rask, the project began as a studio-only endeavor, built meticulously around Rask’s compositions, performances, and, in recent years, his own vocal work. While various guest musicians have contributed in the studio, Since The Death has always remained firmly anchored in the creative mind of Rask.

That is now beginning to change.

With a new release on the horizon and an appearance confirmed at Light The Dark, Oscar has invited some close musical collaborators to bring Since The Death to the stage for the very first time, transforming a long-standing studio project into a fully realized live band.

Following three full-length albums released via Vision Of God Records, an EP through Charon Collective, and several independent singles, Since The Death have now signed with Norwegian label Nordic Mission. This new partnership ushers in the next chapter with the release of the project’s fourth full-length album, Entangled.

Originally conceived under the longer working title Entangled But Still Guarded, the album ultimately embraced the stark power of a single word. Entangled operates simultaneously as theme and symbol.. The artwork depicts a man bound to a massive tree, wrapped in a spider-like cocoon, seemingly trapped with no escape, an image that captures the album’s underlying tension between confinement and protection.

Musically, Since The Death operate at the fierce intersection of death, thrash, and black metal, fusing aggression with precision and atmosphere while maintaining a careful balance between cohesion and contrast.

One of the most satisfying aspects of the band’s second album is how completely it sidesteps standard expectations of how this kind of music is supposed to sound. On Hearts Are Getting Darker, for instance, the band unleash furious mid-tempo death metal riffs before abruptly pulling the brakes, allowing melodic, almost progressive, guitar lines to surface amid the chaos.

While countless bands focus on a violent, devilish aesthetic rather than sheer sonic force, Since The Death channel such intensity that these songs feel like unstoppable magma cascading down the side of a massive volcano.

Lyrically rooted in Oscar Rask’s Christian faith, Entangled explores struggle, endurance, and hope through a darker, more confrontational lens.

The result is a record shaped by tension, belief, and perseverance, an album that faces darkness head-on without ever surrendering to it.
