August Burns Red landed in Eindhoven for their European tour 2012. Last time I saw them was at Groezrock 2011. That was just before the release of Leveler. They brought The Devil Wears Prada with them also my first show of them after the release of Dead Throne. They also brought Veil Of Maya with them after Whitechapel cancelled.
So when we arrived Veil Of Maya already started. This deathcore band did a nice job opening the evening. The pit was already going and there was also a small wall of death. They were good musicians. But overall the song material didn’t really convince me. They play pretty standard deathcore/djent with some technical moments.
The Devil Wears Prada was next. They only played songs from their last 3 releases. Their set was full of energy and the crowd really participated with the energy. An even bigger moshpit, wall of death and the first people crowd surfed. But I must say the new songs didn’t translate that well live and missed some of the older songs. But overall a decent performance!
Setlist:
Born to Lose
Escape
Outnumbered
Assistant to the Regional Manager
Dead Throne
Constance
Danger: Wildman
Dez Moines
Mammoth
Now it was time for the headliner August Burns Red. Before they started a trance intro which is the song Everybody’s Free by Rozalla was played. It really made a great atmosphere in the whole room. The band arrived on stage and started with the songs “Composure” and “The Eleventh Hour” both from Messengers. Than they played “Internal Cannon” and “Cutting the Ties” from Leveler. During the salsa part in “Internal Cannon” the whole room was dancing! They also played “Barbarian” from Thrill Seeker” but also the hits “Meddler” and “Back Burner”. The song “Salt & Light” with everybody singing “We sing for You” at the end of the song gave me chills allover!
Their set was really great with the ‘slower’ metal songs at the right moment but also the more variation from their latest ‘normal’ record translated really great into the set! They ended with a really great drumsolo from Matt Greiner before coming back to end with “Empire” and my favorite song: “White Washed”.
Unfortunally it was a bit early for some Christmas songs but August Burns Red proved again to be one of the best metalcore bands out there with this amazing show!
