I am a big fan of compilations, they are a great resource in discovering bands that you might not otherwise be informed about, as well as seeing some of ones favorites united on a single album. So Roxx Records and Metal for a Dark World Records have teamed up to bring you one of the most awesome thrash compilations of the year to be released on November 20th.
Thrash metal is a sub-genre of heavy metal that always characterized by its fast tempo and aggression. Thrash metal songs typically use fast percussive beats and fast, low-register guitar riffs, overlaid with shredding-style lead work… The origins of thrash metal can be generally traced to the late 1970s and early 1980s, when a number of predominantly American bands began fusing elements of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal with the speed and aggression of hardcore punk. Thrash metal is more aggressive compared to its relative, speed metal, and is thought to have emerged at least in part as a reaction to the more conventional and widely acceptable sounds and themes of glam metal, a less aggressive, pop music-infused heavy metal sub-genre which emerged simultaneously.
This release in-compasses all the above sentiments, straight off the bat your are enveloped into a whirlwind of perscussive beats, thrashing guitars and aggressive high speed charge. Its a headbangers ball of note, not in a long time have I listened to an album or a compilations that explodes with such deliberate charge of high energy thrashings.
The album includes the following bands, “Boarders, Deliverance, Disaffection, Divulgence, ESDRASH , Join The Dead, Kyrios, Last Rites, Moshketeers, Puritan, Spirit’s Breeze , Step Cousin, Supresion, Temple of Blood , Truster, Tsavo Inc and Ultimatum.” Every band delivers a high powered adrenaline rush, its like been invited to an epic gathering of solid thrashing. Imagine all these bands playing together, sharing a stage, it would be one of the best metal-fests of all time guaranteed.
In conclusion what you get here is one of the best Christian thrash compilations you’ll get to hear, I have heard many, and the song choices just work so well together in catching the spirit of thrash. Not withstanding that 7 of my personal favorite thrash bands of all time are on here, Deliverance, Disaffection, Kyrios, Moshketeers, Last Rites, Tsavo Inc and Ultimatum. Thrashmageddon Volume 1 is a classic in the making; featuring some of the best new thrash metal out there. Its filled with some new classic tracks from, Join The Dead, Ultimatum, Tsavo Inc, Boarders, Step Cousin and many more. So if you enjoy thrash metal, and want something that is just as good played at home, or in a club, or riding in your car, hanging with friends or even to skate to at your local skatepark then this is a must have soundtrack for all those things. This is a rip your face off compilation. Some of the recordings might not be the best, but you cannot fault the energy and conviction of the bands, and on this compilation its not about trying to pick every little detail or fault, but rather to just enjoy the thrashings of some great bands who have contributed on their own accord to this for your listening pleasure. Really this album is a Thrashmageddon release. The title is 100% descriptive of what you gonna experience and its captured superbly by the contributing bands.Artwork is done by Six Feet Deep bassist Matt Simmons!, and gives an old school thrash feel that lends it to a classic piece by itself.
Also the pure fact that this has thrash bands from around the globe, adds to the dynamic and freshness of the compilation, and its great to see some of the Christian metal’s big thrashers taking part in this, only help adds credibility and ultimately reach of the release. So if you looking for an album to thrash your head off to, then you cannot go wrong with this, it should come with a cautionary warning – can cause uncontrollable fast head banging that could result in the loss of ones head. How I wished I had my long hair from years ago whilst listening to this…this is 17 tracks of thrash epic-ness, absolutely a 10 on the metal mosh scales. So don’t be passing this off, its a piece of Christian thrash history in the making. Go get yours and go thrash out!
