Cadaverous Contingency – “World Hate”

world hateGrinding, brutal deathcore, just what you’d expect from the unreadable logo, images of skulls and destruction on the cover, and song titles filled with death and carnage.  No surprises here.  If the chaotic sounds of destruction from Abated Mass of Flesh and Numbered With the Transgressors are your thing, you’ll want to check this out.

Based on the limited information I can find, Cadaverous Contingency is another project from the Plunkett family in Tennessee.  Among projects and bands that one or more brother is involved in are Numbered with the Transgressors, a solo project of Zack Plunkett, Abated Mass of Flesh (Rottweiler Records) as well as Dysfunctional Rotout, and Widow and the Son.

The one thing I will have to say from the outset is that I honestly have a hard time telling Abated Mass of Flesh from Numbered with the Transgressors from Cadaverous Contingency.  All of the bands are equally brutal from a musical standpoint.  Cadaverous Contingency and NWTT seem to be a bit, shall we say more organized and less generally chaotic than AMOF, but the same general characteristics are there.  Fast and powerful drums, heavy riffs, unintelligible grunted, squealed, and growled vocals.

Cadaverous Contingency does seem to have the pounding riff down to a near work of art, especially in songs like “Conceived into Atrocity” and “Necrotic State of Delirium”.  Relentless pounding and marching accented by some frenzied riffs and faster sections.  The more I think about the songs as they’re playing in the background the more I the slow, sludgy, heavy riffs start to stand out and while that provides a nice break from the fast chaotic sections, it is no less heavy or impactful.

As a reviewer, albums like this and the other Plunkett projects are a challenge, especially when you’re primarily an old hardcore kid who likes metal.  Oddly enough, I can’t pull myself away.  This is eight songs and 17 minutes of brutality on paper, but from a listener perspective, the general  relentless pounding through the album makes time slow immeasurably.
