Interview With ‘Veritas Infinita’

Due to the changes within the band, we did a new interview with Thomas, bass player of Christian Symphonic Gothicmetal band from Friesland/Holland Veritas Infinita.

[TMR] Hi Veritas Infinita, how are you ? If I remember correctly, in 2010 we did an interview with you. At that time the band had another name ‘Silence Falls’ ?

Thomas: Yep, that’s true, but in my memory it was halfway 2009. Back then we were called Silence Falls. We did one show in Zeewolde wearing that name. In the beginning of 2010 we changed our name into Veritas Infinita.

[TMR] Tell us the brief history of your band please.

Thomas: We started out somewhere in the beginning of 2008 as said earlier under the name Silence Falls. After a few changes in the bands members we changed our name into Veritas infinita. In 2010 we recorded our first demo album Wondrous Ways.

[TMR] Why have you changed the name into ‘Veritas Infinita’ ?

Thomas: We changed our name because we thought it was time for it. We decided to carry a name that had a deeper meaning which had more to do with what we stand for and where our inspiration lies. And that is ofcourse Jesus Christ and His true Word the Bible. Veritas Infinita means infinite truth.

[TMR] Who are your musical and non-musical influences ?

Thomas: Our non-musical influence is Jesus Christ and the Word of God.

Our musical influence is best discribed as symphonic metal, powermetal, folkmetal etc … Some of us listen to Neal Morse, some of us listen to Epica, some of us listen to Eluveitie, some of us listen to Theocracy or Sinbreed, and so on …

[TMR] Tell us a story about a day in your life

Thomas: A day in our life … If we all had to tell a story about one day in our lives this interview would be to long, haha!! But I can tell you this: We all had a day in our lives where we chose to be a part of Veritas Infinita. We are all very proud and happy to be a part of this and very honoured that we have the opportunity to spread the Word for our God

[TMR] What inspires you to do what you do?

Thomas: Our God, our own lives and the world around us inspire us to do what we do. We like to tell young people that there is a God who cares. Just because we experience this in our own lives.

[TMR] How does music affect you and the world around you ?

Thomas: We could not live without Music! Haha! It is seriously one of the greatest gifts that God gave us. We think Veritas Infinita is a result of that. I think music has a great effect on the world. Imagine it wouldnt be there … Wouldnt it be awfull!? Haha!

[TMR] Last month you told us on your facebook profile that you have decided to sail a different course this year ? What does that mean ‘a different course’ ? And whence this change ?

Thomas: Yeah thats right. Our guitarist Tjeerd has left the band in oktober 2011. Since that time we have been looking for a suitable replacement for him. Until now we haven’t found anyone and we sure dont want to sit around doing nothing, haha! So a few weeks ago we asked ourselves the question: What to do? We started playing in a different way during our rehearsals. Linda started to play her acoustic guitar and soon something semi-acoustic was born. Tjerk added some different sounds to it and a new sound was there. To get an idea of what it sounds like you would have to take a few acoustic songs by Within Temptation and some of the songs of the album “Evocation 1 The Arcane Dominion by Eluveitie, put them in a blender and voila. Haha!

But we will not stop looking for a guitarist. We still have an audition for a guitarist planned so we hope to do both heavier shows and acoustic shows.

[TMR] How do you promote your band and shows ?

Thomas: We try to promote our band via Facebook, hyves, website, mouth to mouth, e-mail, Phone, t shirts, cd’s, etc … All kinds of media.

[TMR] Describe your show, visual and musically ? And tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.

Thomas: Visually our shows are filled with a lot of symbolic items like swordfights, fire, dances. All with a little celtic medieval atmopshere. We also have a dancegroup that is called Ingressus. They always help us to make a great visual show. Musically; Most of the time you can expect bombastic symphonic gothicmetal. But we still dont know what 2012 will bring forth, haha!!

[TMR] What’s your outlook on the record industry today?

Thomas: With the rising of internet it has become very hard to promote a recorded cd amidst of all the mp3 stuff … I think it will become easier for bands to record their own songs with their own pc at home and sell the songs online. Amazing isnt it? haha!!

[TMR] Your debut album ‘Wondrous Ways’ was released in September 2010, what can you tell us about this album? Where can people buy it ?

Thomas: It is indeed our first 5-track album. It reflects what Veritas Infinita stands for and it gives you an idea of what Veritas Infinita musically was back in 2010. If you like bombastic metal like HB, Nightwish or Evanescence and if you want to support us in our mission this is a nice one to add to your collection. People can buy the album in the webshop of our website at the “VI Shop” section.

[TMR] What are your plans for this new year or the near future ? [More gigs, in and outside Holland / a new album maybe] ?

Thomas: We are planning on giving some shows in Holland including lamininfest 2012 that will take place somewhere around oktober 2012. And there are some plans for the recording of a second semi-acoustic album. But I dont want to say to much about that, haha! Stay tuned!

[TMR] What do you think about downloading music online?

Thomas: We think it’s a great way to spread the word of God, so why not?

[TMR] What are the biggest obstacles for bands ?

Thomas: The biggest obstacles for bands in our line of music are money for investment and disapprovement of what you do. And it is very hard to get some gigs, haha!!

[TMR] What advice would you give to fellow bands?

Thomas: Keep on doing what you think is good. Keep on listening to Gods voice in what you do. Be openminded to your bandmates and most of all: Dont forget to have fun! Keep rocking for the King!

[TMR] Guys thanks for your time and the interview, we wish ‘Veritas Infinita’ all the best for 2012 … Is there anything you wanna say at last? [any final statement ?]

Thomas: We hope to have a very succesfull 2012 and we hope that YOU will be part of it somewhere, somehow. We’d like to thank TMR for giving us the opportunity again to share some of our thoughts. Grtz and blessings to all of you!! Hope to see you on the road!!! VI
