Flukt logoAs you probably already know, Scandinavia brings us a lot of good metal bands. Now there is a new unblack metal band/project hailing from Norway, Flukt. On Feb. 23rd. they will release their debut EP “Holocaust”. In the following interview we get acquainted with the guys in Flukt.

TMR: Hey guys, this is ‘The Metal Resource’ from Holland, how are things going there in Norway?

Its winter, Cold and dark. Just the way we like it.

TMR: Could you Introduce yourself and the line-up please.

A.Ø: I do guitars, bass and vocals for Flukt.
F.H: I play the drums, and I do some vocals for Flukt.

TMR: Please tell us the brief history of ‘Flukt’.

Flukt started out in August MMXIV. We were just jamming at a Cyanide rehersal (our other band) and we started to jam a different type of music. Darker and more ugly than Cyanide. Which is a Thrash Metal band. And we decided to form a new band. Which became Flukt. The first four songs flew out quickly and we decided to record those and give them out as our debut Ep. Holocaust. I (A.Ø) had some contact with Joshua the owner of SkyBurnsBlack Records in the past. So I contacted him regarding this Flukt Ep. And luckily we got a record deal for Holocaust.

F.H - A.ØTMR: And why the name ‘Flukt’? Is there a story behind it?

Flukt is Norwegian for Escape/Flee. And for us it represent some kind of escape from reality and everyday life. And we wanted a short Norwegian name.

TMR: Everyone, what is your musical background?

A.Ø: I have always listen to extreme music. Black Metal is my favorite style. I do play in the Thrash Metal band Cyanide. And I’m also in the Black Metal band Megiddon. I and F.H has always jammed together in and outside our band. We grew up musically together.
F.H: I started to play drums in 09 when A.Ø and I lived in Oslo. We just want to hang out and do some fun together. We started Cyanide and moved back to our hometown Vennesla in 2010. Since then I have played drums with CXC and Cyanide. And now Flukt.

TMR: Who writes the music and lyrics? How do you get in the mood for writing music? And which bands or situations have inspired you to write music and lyrics?

A.Ø: All the Flukt songs has started out with I have a blueprint of a song. I record the riffs and send them to F.H so he can listen to them. Then we find out the final arrange at rehersals. For my lyrics I take it from my own head, as well as what I read in books, papers etc. And what I see in everyday life.
F.H: I receive a song from A.Ø and I start to make up some beats in my head. And then I record the basic drumming and we take it from there.
For my lyrics I write about what I think and read about. Like to reflect when I’m out in the woods.

TMR: Is there already a highlight you will always remember, since the beginning of ‘Flukt’?

Good rehearsals, Settling the record deal with SkyBurnsBlack Records.

TMR: And the worst thing were (if there is one)?

A.Ø: Cant think of any yet
F.H: I can….hehe

Holocaust EP 2015TMR: Speaking of recording, your debut EP “Holocaust” will be released this month. What can you tell us about the album (such as the recording process, the songs, record label etc).

We are looking forward to release this Ep through American SkyBurnsBlack Records. We really think this is the best we’re capable of at the moment. For this recording we did rythm guitars first, then drums. And bass and guitar leads. We did vocals last. Everything has been recorded and mixed at Hulloen Studio / Flukt rehersal place. We have done everything ourselves. With some advice of course. And we had a couple of friends who play drums to do some percussion on the track Tomhet.

TMR: About the cover artwork. Do you think it is as important as your music? Does it visualize the lyrics of your songs or what’s the actual story behind its concept?

The Flukt logo and front cover of the Ep is drawn by Drawnsword Graphix, reflects the lyrical consept of this Ep. Which dwells with the death camps and the frontlines of WW2.

TMR: How do you promote your band and shows?

Flukt is not a live band yet. We have discussed the possibility of taking Flukt on the road. So time will tell. But for this Holocaust release we have spread the message (disease) through various metalzine online. With the help from SkyBurnsBlack and other contacts. Of course we will send a physical copy of Holocaust Ep around for reviews etc. Interviews like this one is also very good promotions. So thanks alot!

TMR: What was the last album you bought?

A.Ø: The last I bought was Nidingr – Greatest of Deceivers and Napalm Death – Apex Predators.
F.H: Taake – Stridens Hus. Taake is my all time favorite.

TMR: How do you prepare for a show?

A.Ø: I always has to piss before a show. Warm up,eating and drinking is important. And last but not least focus on why I am doing this.
F.H: Warm up is important. I need to take a run for 15 – 20 min to get my body warm. And then I just sit with my sticks and smash my drum pad. Water is required.

TMR: What are the biggest obstacles for a band?

Time and dedication. Many times it is hard to get gigs for small bands. At least here in Norway.
Gigs is important for keeping band members motivated. Different opinions about musically directions can be hard at times.

A.Ø: Haha hard to say.
F.H: Is there any dumb question?

TMR: What are some of the things you like to do away from the band?

A.Ø: I like to play football, skiing and take a walk in the woods. Hang out with friends and family.
