Indiana Horror Punk Band Grave Robber Releases Covers Album “The Cellar Sessions”

By daylight the graveyard can be a place of peaceful reflection and thoughtful wandering amongst memories of the loved and lost. But the night…the night changes everything. In its dark embrace things become so much more than they seemed under the comforting rays of the sun. The shadows are deeper, the silence holds unspoken threat and each sudden sound near stops your trembling heart. The stone angels’ beatific smiles have changed to enraged glares of furious reproach…and was that the sound of a shovel biting into the sacred soil? As white serpents of mist slither about your ankles with a touch that freezes the skin, nothing here is what it seems…

For nearly twenty years Fort Wayne’s Grave Robber have been invoking the sounds of the cemetery and the atmosphere of the tomb with their ripping horror punk anthems. Their horde of undead devotees, brethren of the boneyards, have clutched albums like 2009s Inner Sanctum and 2018s Escaping The Grave to their cold, decaying hearts with a fervent passion. Punk, metal and rock ‘n’ roll rebellion delivered with frenetic energy, snarling guitars, fiendish atmosphere and a voice that can shake fleshless skeletons from their dusty, dreamless slumbers. Since they began  Grave Robber have not shied away from tackling a cover version – some that could have been written for these adrenaline fuelled ghouls and some that you’d never imagine finding their way into the Grave Robber mausoleum. Over the last decade, In between breathing life into an array of albums and EPs, the Robbers have been hard at work in their rehearsal cellar, drawing together the finest of their raucous covers, those most powerfully imbued with the spirit of the unquiet dead…and at last the definitive collection is ready to be unearthed! The Cellar Sessions features classic songs from Misfits, Black Sabbath, Jim Croce and Norman Greenbaum, legendary laments from Metallica, Nirvana, Cyndi Lauper and more – all transformed and dissected , reworked and reanimated by the carousing corpses of Grave Robber. Sure, some covers albums can be throwaway, or hit and miss affairs, but not this stitched and bandaged beast that has come crawling up those cellar steps. This is the sound of celebration for the creatures of the night, anthems of rebellion for the outcasts and the lost boys, the witches, the zombies, the blood suckers and the wolves.

The spirit of The Cellar Sessions is perfectly captured in the brilliant cover artwork, created by Paul Stier (Brotality, Symphony Of Heaven etc) and the disparate tracks have been brought together into one sinister sound elixir by the production and mastering skills of Tim Bushong and Michael Walter. Out now on Thumper Punk Records, The Cellar Sessions is the perfect record for the night time hours, when the moon rides high in a star-dusted, stygian sky.
