Frontman Sonny Sandoval said, “This song, ‘Revolución,’ it’s definitely got that punk vibe. Something that’s very familiar–P.O.D. meets the reggae vibe. Bad Brains style.

“We knew we wanted someone on this track and Lou from Sick of it All guest appears. This is one of those songs where you pay homage to those artists and bands that have paved the way. We’ve done that in the past with H.R. (Bad Brains), Mike Muir (Suicidal Tendencies), Page Hamilton (Helmet), Eek-a-Mouse and others. The list goes on of the artists that we’ve been blessed to have on our tracks and Lou was another one who was a no-brainer for us.

“We were blown away that he was down to do it. We sent him the track with the idea, the concept, the lyrics and he did his thing. And, again, it’s got that punk vibe that makes you want to move around in the crowd and go crazy. And then it’s got that cool reggae breakdown that we love doing. It’s definitely a fun track.

“Relating to the song’s storyline, here you are with the world telling you one thing and at this part in the new album’s story, our character is rebelling against the system. He’s rebelling against all the things that are holding him down. He’s rebelling against the evils that he’s facing. So it’s not a revolution as in ‘go with the flow’–it’s more like his own personal demons that he’s facing. And he’s deciding now to fight back, even if the world is going one way or the system’s going one way, he’s deciding to fight back within himself.”

‘The Awakening’ is definitely an evolution from where we’ve come from,” says bassist Traa Daniels. “It’s this amazing piece of art that we’ve been able to put together as four guys who are like brothers; this is really special.”

“I feel this is like a pivotal moment for P.O.D.,” says drummer Wuv Bernardo. “It’s more than just, ‘Man, we just went in the studio and did a record…’ The urgency of our band, as far as how serious we are putting this kind of material in there and the way that we did it, blows my mind. I am proud of these guys, of us.”

P.O.D. is Sonny Sandoval (vocals), Marcos Curiel (guitar), Traa Daniels (bass) and Wuv Bernardo (drums).

When asked about P.O.D.‘s particularly active schedule this year, Wuv summed it up well for everyone, saying, “This time around it’s just pure band excitement. It’s natural and it’s where we’re at.”
