Open World – “Children of the Night” (maxi-single)

Open World _ ChildrenImagine combining trip-hop with goth and industrial with some video game soundtracks from the 90’s and early 2000’s and you can cover the different versions of the song “Children of the Night” by Open World in their debut maxi-single.

The song itself focused on how all of God’s creation has worth and can sing praises to Him, even the “creatures of darkness, children of night”.  Now imagine four different versions of that incorporating the industrial, goth, and video game soundtracks mentioned above.  The Aurora Plastic Mix does have more of the industrial feel to it but also sounds similar to what one might hear from Skot Shaw’s band Leper, but with less melody and structure.  The melody and structure come more into play in the Skot Shaw version, but the song has a feel that is darker and creepier than most Leper songs.  The instrumental and piano versions are interesting with the piano version sounding a bit scary, like something out of an old black and white horror film, right down to the odd recording/production that imparts an older feeling to the song.

This is a “maxi-single” and is four versions of the same base song but each has it’s own subtle twist that sets each one apart.  If goth/industrial is of interest, you should check out the different versions of “Children of the Night”.
