Project 86 – “Sheep Among Wolves”

Twenty years as a band is a long time and to celebrate their 20th year, Project 86 have released Sheep Among Wolves, their 10th album and show that while their sound has matured over the years, none of the original ferocity has been lost.

While Sheep Among Wolves was kicked off as a crowdfunded campaign to celebrate the band’s 20 year existence, we’re now in 2018, which will mark the 22nd year since being formed in Orange County, California in 1996.  From a career standpoint, the band has released 10 albums, two DVDs, two Eps and one live album, with over 500,000 units moved worldwide.  Demonstrating the longevity of the band and faithfulness of fans, the crowdfund campaign for Sheep Among Wolves brought in 160% of the target.  As one would imagine being around as long as they have,  the band has seen all sides of the music industry.  After getting their start on Tooth & Nail Records, the band was briefly signed to Atlantic Records for one album, Truthless Heroes, where nearly everything went wrong for the band.  Following that rough period, the band self-released one album then rejoined Tooth&Nail for a few years, leaving at the end of a contract in 2011 to use Kickstarter to fund their Wait for the Siren album that was released in 2012.  The band self-released Knives to the Future in 2014 and began the crowfund campaign for Sheep Among Wolves in 2016.  At this point in the band’s history, singer Andrew Schwab is the only remaining original member, but throughout the band’s career, Schwab’s distinct vocals and the band’s driving, emotional music has made their songs recognizable and retained the loyalty of fans.  Continue reading »

Living Sacrifice, Xandria, Project 86 Confirmed to Play 10th Edition of ‘Brainstorm Festival’ In November (Promo Video Available)

The American metal band Living Sacrifice, Symphonic Metal Band Xandria (D) and the Heavy Rock Band Project 86 (USA) are headlining the 10th edition of Brainstorm Festival. The cultural rock and metal festival will be held this year on 3 and 4 November as usual in the Gigant in Apeldoorn (NL).

Living Sacrifice (picture) was founded in 1989, but did not play in the Netherlands before. Nevertheless the band is well-known, partly because the band members have also been active in bands such as Evanescence, P.O.D. and We Are The Fallen.

Project 86 – “Knives to the Future”

p86_knives_artwork_1500The new album from Project 86, Knives to the Future, picks up thematically from where their last album, Wait for the Siren, left off.  Much like Truthless Heroes, Knives to the Future tells a story, in this case, one of a soldier regaining consciousness after a battle with no memory of who he is.  The songs provide the soundscape for the soldier’s journey to find out where he came from and who he is.

For those who don’t know of Project 86, it may come as a bit of a surprise to learn that the band has been around with various lineups for 18 years, being formed in Orange County, California in 1996.  From a career standpoint, the band has released eight albums, two DVDs, two Eps and one live album, with likely now over 500,000 units moved worldwide.  The band has seen the good and bad of the recording industry, starting out on Tooth&Nail records to gain fame and attention, then sign to Atlantic Records where everything literally went wrong for the band.  Following that rough period, the band self-released one album then rejoined Tooth&Nail for a few years, leaving at the end of a contract in 2011 to use Kickstarter to fund their Wait for the Siren album that was released in 2012 and featured a variety of guest apperances ranging from Head (Korn) to Bruce Fitzhugh and Rocky Gray (Living Sacrifice) to even Blake Martin (A Plea for Purging).  For Knives to the Future, the band recorded in Steelman Studios in Van Nuys, CA with Matt McClellan and the band producing and Steve Evetts mixing.  At this point in the band’s history, singer Andrew Schwab is the only remaining original member, but throughout the band’s career, Schwab’s distinct vocals and a general sonic quality to the band have made their songs easily recognizable. Project 86 (2014)After a highly successful Indiegogo campaign, veteran rock band Project 86 have released their ninth studio album, “Knives To The Future,” on November 11, through their own label, Team Black Recordings. An European version including 2 bonus-tracks will be released next month on Jan. 16th.

‘Project 86’ New Song Available for Streaming ‘Acolyte March’

P86Project 86 released a new single ‘Acolyte March’ the song comes off their upcoming album “Knives to the Future”. The album will be released on November 4th. and is the follow up to 2012’s “Wait for the Siren”.

According to their press release, 18 new tracks were recorded including an acoustic one, “We have loved pushing the envelope of evolution on every Project 86 release and this record is no exception. The inspiration behind this record is completely different and its been incredible to write and record with such a talented group of guys,” said lead singer Andrew Schwab in a statement.

The band was able to raise $90,000 for their project after only setting their goal for $50,000. This placed the campaign in the top 10 of IndieGogo all time. Continue reading »
