Demon Hunter Releases “Exile” B-Side ‘The Brink’

Demon Hunter have given a new digital release to their track ‘The Brink’. That song had previously seen a release late last year via the band’s fan club blessedresistance.com. It originated as a b-side from the sessions for their latest album, “Exile“.

The group’s frontman Ryan Clark previously commented of the song:

“The ‘Exile‘ recording session left us with a number of extra songs, which is not very common for us. Usually we narrow the funnel before we commit to recording—in order to keep things focused and as speedy as possible.

For this record, there were a number of songs that we really wanted to include, but it really came down to what fit—not just time-wise, but also thematically.

‘The Brink‘ is definitely a different one for us, but I absolutely love how it came out. We discussed doing this one as a piano ballad or stripped-down acoustic number, but I demoed it as an 80s-esque electronic tune, and we were really loving that vibe too much to mess with it.

There is a feeling of anxiety in the main key pattern, which is deliberate. We wanted it to feel like that moment in a movie when things start to intensify and you’re not sure how it’s going to shake out. I think the score to Interstellar was a big inspiration for this song in general. If you’re familiar with that score, you may hear it.”

This April will find the alternative metal outfit hitting the road for a 20th anniversary tour with Opponent opening.

Demon Hunter‘s latest album “Exile” is their twelfth studio album, released through their self-founded record label, Weapons MFG, and the band’s first concept album. It was announced for release in September 9, 2022, then delayed to October 28, 2022, due to supply chain issues.

Six singles were released ahead of the album, including ‘Silence the World’, ‘Defense Mechanism’, and ‘Godless’, featuring vocals from Tom S. Englund (Evergrey) and Max Cavalera (ex-Sepultura, Soulfly), and a guitar solo by Richie Faulkner (Judas Priest) respectively. It marks Faulkner‘s first studio recording since suffering an aortic rupture and dissection and subsequent 10-hour surgery. This album also features a new recording of the song ‘Praise the Void’, previously released in Demon Hunter‘s acoustic album “Songs of Death and Resurrection” a year prior.

Demon Hunter started writing a follow-up album to “Exile” as early as October in 2022, shortly before their new album’s release. The album sold 6,400 copies in its first week, debuting at No. 200 on the Billboard 200, No. 1 of Top Christian Albums, No. 3 of Top Hard Rock Albums, No. 3 of Top Independent Albums, No. 4 of Top Rock Albums and No. 9 of Top Albums Sales.
