The Feel Good Drag – Demo

The Feel Good Drag hails from Cologne, Germany. This surf/grunge rock band consists of three members: Molly, Sebastian, and Martin. They recently released a three piece demo, which can be downloaded for free on Bandcamp.

First of all, I feel that this band should have been more original and not taken their name from a song recorded by Anberlin in 2008. It doesn’t give me the impression that they will surprise their fans with fresh, new material in the future. (Not to mention, it does make me inclined to compare their music to Anberlin’s).That grievance stated, now onto reviewing the music. Although the first song “Fall Alone” is quite catchy, without the hard driving beat, there is very little musical or lyrical substance. The vocalist gets tries to get his point across by yelling the same words over and over. “Madsan” is much easier to listen to; the grunge elements really shine through and give the sound an edgy (but not aggressive) quality. A nice bassline starts off the last track “Twylyght” and is then met with consistent drum beats and sultry male vocals. I wish the beginning of the demo had employed the same musical/rhythmic structure as the last track.

These guys have potential; their execution is not overly impressive, but with a few more years of recording experience, they could very well be up to par. And their debut is free, so what are you waiting for?
