Volturian – the Modern Metal band founded by singer Federica Lanna (Sleeping Romance) and songwriter Federico Mondelli (Frozen Crown) – have released the official video for the song ‘The Killing Joke’, the new single taken from their debut-album “Crimson”.

The video can be seen below:

Based on the graphic novel masterpiece by Alan Moore with the same name, the video explores madness and sanity, electing them as the two faces of the same coin, with strong images and bright, eye-poppin’ colours. ‘The Killing Joke’ is the first official video of the band made after the quarantine and filmed at full potential.

Italian symphonic metal band Sleeping Romance and the vocalist Federica Lanna have decided to part ways. Read more in the statement below.

The band broke the sad news today via their social media, stating: “A chapter of the Sleeping Romance story has sadly ended. Sleeping Romance and Federica Lanna have decided to part company, in mutual understanding, for the good of all parties involved. It was a very hard and sad decision for all of us, but we think it is for the best. Our opinions on music strayed away over time. We understood that it is better if everyone follows his/her own ideas without having to force anyone into doing things they are not up for. Nonetheless, it was a pleasure playing with Federica and having her voice with us for the first two albums. We all wish her the very best in her future projects.”

Volturian – the Modern Metal band founded by singer Federica Lanna (Sleeping Romance) and songwriter Federico Mondelli (Frozen Crown) – have released a video for the song ‘Broken, the second single taken from their debut-album “Crimson” which wil be released on April 24th, via Scarlet Records (EU/US) and Marquee Avalon (Japan).

The band comment:

As you all know, we were supposed to film our very first official video all together, but for the reasons you can imagine, we weren’t able to meet. So instead of giving you something with an extremely amateur feel or delaying the release, we filmed all the scenes by ourselves in isolation, and made a proper official video out of them.

Symphonic power metal from Italy welcomes a new member to the club in Volturian a new project featuring the ethereal vocals of Federica Lanna (Sleeping Romance) and songwriter Federico Mondelli (Frozen Crown).

Back in 2013, I reviewed Enlighten from Sleeping Romance and was struck by the vocals of Federica Lanna and before learning anything about Volturian, I knew I had heard the vocals before.  This time, Federica joins Federico Mondelli (Frozen Crown) in a new project that combines Federica’s vocals with symphonic metal elements and a good bit of electronic music.  Finding information on foreign bands more than a month before their album drops is a bit of challenge.  What we do know is that in addition to Federico, drummer Alberto Mezzanotte, and bass player Massimiliano Rossi are all from Frozen Crown and Frozen Crown vocalist Giada “Jade” Etro contributes vocals to “In a Heartbeat”.  From the band’s perspective, this is obviously a terrible time to try to release any new material but the band is pushing on.  On March 19th, the band posted how they were supposed to be filming a video but obviously in Italy, that was not going to be possible as the country was being ravaged by Covid-19.  The band acknowledged basically all of their promotion for the album was going to be destroyed, but the encouraging feedback from the first single “New Life” encouraged them to keep pushing on.

Volturian – the Modern Metal band founded by singer Federica Lanna (Sleeping Romance) and songwriter Federico Mondelli (Frozen Crown) – have released an official visualizer-video for the song ‘New Life’, the first single taken from their debut-album “Crimson” which wil be released on April 24th, via Scarlet Records (EU/US) and Marquee Avalon (Japan)

Watch the video below.

Based on the huge contrast between mellow, dreamy female vocals and heavy downtuned guitar riffs, with a massive infusion of electronic music, the Volturian’s sound is catchy, epic and dynamic at the same time. Lanna’s pristine and ethereal vocals move fluently between slow paced groovy songs and rigid, Industrial inspired hymns, held together by Mondelli’s Swedish Death Metal oriented guitar riffs (early 2000 In Flames and Soilwork) and by the powerful and precise drumming of the young talent Alberto Mezzanotte. Keyboards add a fundamental layer to Volturian’s music, ranging from New Wave to 90’s Europop to obscure gothic atmospheres.
