When we get [off the road] in September, we’ll put the finishing touches on the other 14. The two are just about completed. One of them actually leaked already somehow. Somebody at the record company who is an absolute idiot did it. The only bummer about it was the fact that it’s just not done. It would have been nice to have something a little more complete leak.” Continue reading »

Phil Freeman of Roadrunner Records recently conducted an interview with vocalist Jesse Leach of Massachusetts metallers Killswitch Engage. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Roadrunner Records: So what can you say about the next record at this point?

Jesse: I’ve got a couple of songs done. I’ve got a bunch to go, but I’ve got a lot of ideas. I listen to it every once in a while out here [on the road] just to keep me familiar with it, so when I get home and attempt to finish the record, it’s still fairly fresh in my mind. Sonically, this is definitely — it’s got a more urgent feeling to it. It’s a lot faster, there’s definitely huge melody going on, but the songs are a lot shorter. Not one song really goes over the three-and-a-half-, four-minute mark. Continue reading »

Daniel Brockman of The Boston Phoenix recently conducted an interview with Killswitch Engage singer Jesse Leach. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

The Boston Phoenix: Revisiting this band and this material, are you struck at all by how much things have changed, how much metal has changed in the nine years since you left Killswitch?

Jesse: Metal has changed, but I’ve changed as well. And that’s what’s exciting about rejoining this band and doing the new record. I’ve always been a fan of the music that they call metalcore, this crossbreeding of hardcore and metal, but what passes for metalcore today I’m not a fan of. It’s been a by-numbers watered down thing. I mean, God Forbid, In Flames, Mastodon, these are metalcore bands that I love, so I’m speaking in general terms. Continue reading »
