Signum Regis return with an ep full of the European power metal that has won them acclaim on their previous releases. For a person like me that grew up listening to Deep Purple, Rainbow, Yngwie Malmsteen and other such bands and now enjoys bands like Iron Saviour and Empire 21, this is an easy ep to review. In all honesty, I haven’t heard their previous material, but seeing as it has won critical acclaim for being great power metal, I feel confident in recommending this ep to existing fans of the band.
Signum Regis was formed in 2007 by bass player Ronnie König who quickly added vocalist Göran Edman (ex-Yngwie Malmsteen), and they set about recording the self-titled debut album, which went on to receive good reviews. From there the band signed to Inner Wound Recordings in 2010 and recorded the concept album The Eyes of Power. In the writing process for the third album the band decided that more vocalists would be needed and some of the singers the band recruited include: Lance King (ex-Pyramaze, Balance of Power), Matt Smith (Theocracy), Michael Vescera (Obsession, Animetal USA, ex. Yngwie Malmsteen), and Daísa Munhoz (Vandroya, Soulspell). All of these vocalists and Göran contributed to an epic retelling of the Biblical story of Exodus. Continue reading »
