podawakeningcd1P.O.D. has been around now for about 24 years. They have had some awards (American Music Awards 2003 – Favorite Contemporary Inspirational Artist (nomination), Echo Awards 2003 – International Alternative Group of the Year, San Diego Music Awards 1999 – Best Hard Rock Artist, 2000 – Best Hard Rock Artist), and have had some notable iconic guests on the albums ( Maria Brink of In This Moment and Lou Koller of Sick Of It All and Mike Muir of Suicidal Tendencies), and with that they are still a band that deserves loads of respect in the music scene.

With “The Awakening’ their latest and 9th release we see a band still growing into its boots.

Trying to keep it fresh as always this innovative hard rock band brings us an album that is more concept in nature. For me it keeps things interesting and shows a band that does not fear thinking outside of the box.

Sometimes changing up and evolving ones sound can be a tricky affair and can come up with criticism from the fans. But P.O.D. has kept their core sound or approach throughout their career within that evolution. “The Awakening” as a album keeps it fresh, continuing their stride of offering their fans something unique, yet commercially viable, but by no means dumbed down. Katy_Perry_POD_322Background singers don’t always stay in the back. This ended up being the case for a little-known recording artist named Katy Hudson, who had a small part singing on P.O.D.‘s 2006 hit ‘Goodbye for Now.’ That singer has since sold 11 million albums and has achieved three Guinness World Records under the name Katy Perry.

The connection between P.O.D. and Katy Perry flew under the radar despite the singer becoming a breakout superstar in 2008. More than seven years after Perry turned into a pop phenom with ‘I Kissed a Girl,’ the video of P.O.D.’s ‘Goodbye for Now’ started making the rounds on the internet this week. Perry even performed with the band on The Tonight Show.

P.O.D. frontman Sonny Sandoval spoke about working with Katy Perry in a 2012 interview with Songfacts. Continue reading »

P.O.D. ninth studio album “The Awakening” is released one day earlier (August 21). The concept record follows the good and bad choices of a central character, exploring the consequences of his decisions. Bassist Traa Daniels told The Pulse Of Radio that the band doesn’t want to spell out the story too much. “There is a specific storyline, but I think the whole thing is that we don’t want to kind of let that cat out of the bag,” he said. “I think that we really want people to like dig into the record and kind of figure out. I mean, I think that’s the fun part of having a conceptual record is not really giving away the whole thing, you know what I’m saying? There definitely is a character and there’s a specific storyline that, you know, was the inspiration for the songs and the writing and everything.” Continue reading »

Frontman Sonny Sandoval said, “This song, ‘Revolución,’ it’s definitely got that punk vibe. Something that’s very familiar–P.O.D. meets the reggae vibe. Bad Brains style.

“We knew we wanted someone on this track and Lou from Sick of it All guest appears. This is one of those songs where you pay homage to those artists and bands that have paved the way. We’ve done that in the past with H.R. (Bad Brains), Mike Muir (Suicidal Tendencies), Page Hamilton (Helmet), Eek-a-Mouse and others. The list goes on of the artists that we’ve been blessed to have on our tracks and Lou was another one who was a no-brainer for us. Continue reading »
