According to The Pulse Of RadioP.O.D. canceled an appearance this past Sunday [October 28] at a festival in Ventura, California after officials objected to the lyrics of one of the band’s biggest songs, Youth Of The Nation. According to the Ventura County Star, an official at the Ventura County Fairgrounds sent an email to the promoter of the Monster Jam Fest requesting that P.O.D. not play Youth Of The Nation because the lyrics, which were partially inspired by three separate school shootings, were “too touchy and controversial” and “too violent to be played at a family event.”

Youth Of The Nation appeared on the band’s 2001 album Satellite and was nominated for a Grammy for “Best Hard Rock Performance”. Continue reading »

Some bands peak during their career and then never seem to recover, with each release after their most popular one being not as good as the previous one. P.O.D., who have been around since 1992 and released eight albums, definitely hit their peak with Satellite in 2001. Since that release, the group has seen band member changes and a string of releases that have not lived up to expectations set by Satellite. In Murdered Love, P.O.D. has returned their roots in some of the songs and have put together some really strong tracks, while other tracks on the album seem somewhat out of place by comparison. While this album is somewhat hit-or-miss with the songs, the stronger songs are really good and should help ignite a new fan base and may steer a new generation of listeners back to the roots of the P.O.D. sound.

Murdered Love wastes no time jumping to the heavy side of P.O.D.’s sound with the track “Eyez”, which harkens back to the sound from their earlier Fundamental Elements of Southtown release. Continue reading »

Bob Zerull of Zoiks! Online recently conducted an interview with vocalist Sonny Sandoval of Christian hard rockers P.O.D [Payable On Death]. An excerpt from the chat follows below.

Zoiks! Online: You’ve got a lot of momentum going with the new album Murdered Love. You worked with [producer] Howard Benson again. Was the magic still there?

Sonny: Yeah, man. We’ve come up together. We are his first gold and platinum record, and after that, he took on the world and made millions of other records. I think with us taking a little hiatus and now coming back, I was keeping in touch with him and he was, like, “When do you want to do it again? Because I want to make a real rock record; I’m tired of the cookie-cutter process.” He lets us be us; that’s the cool thing. When we say something, he fights for it. We also listen to his opinion because we trust it and he’s just easy to work with. Continue reading »
