Stryper frontman Michael Sweet has confirmed that he is working on material for his next solo album. The follow-up to 2016’s “One Sided War” will arrive in 2019 via Rat Pak Records.

Sweet wrote on his Facebook page:

Writing songs has always been part of my DNA. Once I get into that mode the flood gates open. I spent the past few days working on some ideas and so far I have 11 that I like. Now I need to weed through them and arrange them and program drum grooves to make em’ feel right. Joel Hoekstra and I are co-writing 2 songs together so I’m waiting to hear what he comes up with and that will make 13 tracks total (12 for US, one bonus track for overseas). Continue reading »

michaelsweetonesidedwarcdStryper’s frontman Michael Sweet added yet another record to his discography, when “One sided war” was released worldwide in August 2016 under the label of Rat Pak Records. Following the success of his last studio album “I’m Not Your Suicide”; for his 7th studio solo project, Michael teamed up with Joel Hoekstra of the Whitesnake and ex-Night Ranger fame, guitarist Ethan Brosh, bassist John O’Boyle and drummer Will Hunt of the Evanescence fame. Michael has been rocking the scene for almost three decades now and with this power packed album, he sustains his momentum and delivers a good taste of the 80s’ Hard rock and metal scene.

Michael states, “Musically it’s my heaviest solo album, It’s not thrash metal but there are definitely some songs on there that will pop out at you. There are some songs that have a bit of the Iron Maiden / Dio feel to them, as well as some songs that have a little bit of a Van Halen influence to them. It’s a very guitar-oriented, hard rock/metal album with lots of melodies and hooks. Originally I planned on showcasing my own guitar playing; I was going to do it all myself, but once I brought Joel & Ethan into the picture, things began to take a new direction and I am very happy with what we have accomplished”. michaelsweet_2016The official video for ‘Radio’, a brand new song from Stryper frontman Michael Sweet, can be seen below. The track is taken from Sweet‘s seventh solo album, “One Sided War”, which is released today via Rat Pak Records. Backing Michael on the record are Whitesnake guitarist Joel Hoekstra, Evanescence drummer Will Hunt, bassist John O’Boyle and East Coast shred-master Ethan Brosh.

Said Sweet: “I wrote the song ‘Radio’ based on my history in country music and on what seems to be a surge of rock stars trying to become country stars.

“I’m a metalhead at heart and always will be, but I’ve had the opportunity to write with some of the best writers in Nashville (Blair Daly, Bruce Wallace, Luke Laird) and I’ve learned how talented these guys are and how serious they take their job.

“Just as metal is a lifestyle, country is as well and you have to live it, not just wake up one morning and decide you’re gonna be a country star and have the respect of the country world. Continue reading »
