Of Mice & Men are streaming their cover of Pink Floyd‘s ‘Money’. Their take on the song comes from their approaching new album, “Defy“, which will land in stores on January 19th through Rise Records.

The band update the song a little bit, with the original cash register sound effects now with a more video game “cashing in” vibe, but you still get the clinking of coins featured prominently. And while the original danced around a more rhythmic swinging bass-led pattern, the Of Mice & Men song is more immediate and amped up with guitars to a speed more befitting of their style. The guitars and drumming drive the song with more ferocity, while vocalist Aaron Pauley capably transmits the darker, sinister tone of the song.

‘Money’ fits well into the conceptual leanings of the band’s Defy album, with Pauley previously stating, “To defy means to challenge the power of, resist boldly and openly,” and that’s a feeling firmly embraced in the Pink Floyd original. Continue reading »

Due on January 19, 2018 via Rise Records, the disc will mark Of Mice & Men‘s first full-length release without vocalist Austin Carlile, who left the group due to his ongoing battle with Marfan syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that afflicts the connective tissue holding the body’s cells, organs and tissue together. “We’re excited to be debuting the music video for ‘Warzone’ today, a song from our new album, ‘Defy’,” said Pauley. “For us, this new album encapsulates and showcases our desire to return to an aggressive, live-oriented sound, and ‘Warzone’ is of the heaviest tracks on the album. Because we love releasing new music as often as we can, it only seemed fitting to release it right before our massive EU/UK tour with In Flames and Five Finger Death Punch this fall/winter. So turn it up, and bang your head.” Continue reading »

Of Mice and Men have released “Unbreakable”, a short film that brings fans onstage and behind the scenes for a unique look at life on the road with a touring rock band. Directed by Johann Ramos, the documentary follows Of Mice and Men (bassist/vocalist Aaron Pauley, drummer Valentino Arteaga and guitarists Phil Manansala and Alan Ashby) across multiple continents for a series of electrifying performances captured earlier this year.

Arteaga told Fuel The Scene about “Unbreakable”: “That documents our summer playing festivals and going and playing small club shows overseas and just really reconnecting with our fans. For us, that’s so important, and our love for our fans and just music — not even just fans. Those are people that support us and support our vision and our dreams, not to mention music lovers.” Continue reading »

From Orange County, California comes the metal core band Of Mice & Men with their latest album Cold World. It’s a well-known band in the metal core scene, so I was pretty exited to review this album. I’m a big fan of metal core and I really like this band.

For those who do not know the band, the name is actually a reference to a book from John Steinbeck. There are two reasons why they choose the name, according to the band members. Austin Carlile said that the sentence ‘the well laid plans of mice and man often falter’ has a lot to do with Jaxin Hall’s (former band member and co-founder of the band) and his own life. They had plans for life, the plans failed and now they try to make the best out of it. The other reason comes from Jaxin Hall. He said that the main theme of the book is about the American Dream and being self-sufficient. They wanted to make the band their American Dream. Austin departed the band after this album, which he posted on Instagram. He left the band to focus on healing and moving on after settling in Costa Rica. Early 2017 he got a question about his future with the band. He made clear that he would not go back to the band. According to him, the other members would not let him write what he wanted on the next record. Enough about the band, lets talk about their music. Continue reading »
