Of Mice & Men has released the title track of its upcoming EP, “Timeless”. The effort will be released on February 26 via the band’s new label home, SharpTone Records.

‘Timeless’ is a song about becoming increasingly aware of impermanence, written through somewhat of a somber, yet romantic, lens,” says singer/bassist Aaron Pauley. “At the beginning of the pandemic, I was watching a lot of black and white movies. One of my favorite movies is ‘Casablanca’. I wonder if any original copies exist. You know, although that movie is universally regarded as being timeless, the actual celluloid is so fragile. But I think we find a special kind of vibrance in life when we’re aware of our own impermanence.”

Regarding how the idea for the EP came about, Pauley says: “There’s an old idiom about what you’re supposed to do when life gives you lemons. Sadly, to disappoint, this wasn’t exactly that. We started writing this EP shortly before the initial lockdowns in spring of 2020, before we knew that our world was about to become a radically different place. A lot of these songs were born from a place of wondering how we’d fit into 2020 and beyond, both as adults in our 30s as well as a band that’s a decade into our existence.”

“There’s an old idiom about what you’re supposed to do when life gives you lemons,” explains singer Aaron Pauley about the EP. “Sadly, to disappoint, this wasn’t exactly that. We started writing this EP shortly before the initial lockdowns in spring of 2020, before we knew that our world was about to become a radically different place. ‘Taste Of Regret’, the new video from Of Mice & Men, can be seen below. The song is taken from the band’s sixth album, “Earthandsky”, which will be released on September 27 via Rise Records.

‘Taste Of Regret’ is a song about knowing when to pick your battles, and also knowing when to shut your mouth and bite your tongue,” said singer and bassist Aaron Pauley. “‘Loose lips sink ships,’ as the age old cliché goes. There’s a lot of truth in that though. One’s loud mouth can ruin their life.”

Drummer Tino Arteaga weighed in on the video, saying, “Pulling inspiration from old psychological thrillers and filmmaking from the ’70s and ’80s, ‘Taste Of Regret’ continues our ongoing visual narrative of the previous three videos for this album at an alternate point in the timeline.” Continue reading »

California rockers Of Mice & Men have announced a North American headlining tour in the fall. Support on the trek will come from For The Fallen Dreams Thousand Below and Bloodbather. Dubbed “The Earth Tour”, it will kick off September 23 in Los Angeles and end on October 19 in Mesa, Arizona.

Of Mice & Men will release its new album, “Earthandsky”, on September 27 via Rise Records. The disc will include the previously released tracks ‘Mushroom Cloud’ and ‘How To Survive’, as well as the newly issued single ‘Earth & Sky’.

‘Earth & Sky’ is a song about resilience,” says frontman Aaron Pauley. It’s about understanding that you can rise above whatever it is that keeps trying to drag you down, no matter what.

“For me, a lot of the time, I’m writing about battling with my own mind. For you, it may be a person, or an obstacle, or a circumstance,” he continues. “Regardless of whatever it is that’s trying relentlessly to drag you down, I hope this song empowers you to rise above it with authority, like it does me every time I sing it.”

“How To Survive” marked the first taste of new music from the Southern California quartet since last year’s much-praised “Defy” album. Continue reading »

Of Mice & Men has released the official music video for a new song called ‘Mushroom Cloud’. Check it out below.

Commented singer/bassist Aaron Pauley: “I was pretty young when I became aware of the danger of spending too much time in my own head. My mind has never been a safe place for me to retreat to, and it’s something I have to consciously deal with on a daily basis. ‘Mushroom Cloud’ is our visceral representation of how it feels to be trapped, how it feels to be cut down by your own inner voice, how it feels to have nowhere to hide, and how it feels to be someone with a mind that’s as dangerous to themselves as the aftermath of an atomic weapon.”

Of Mice & Men has been in the studio working on new material with producer Josh Wilbur. Continue reading »
