From Orlando, Florida comes Tremonti with their latest album called Dust. The founder of the band, Mark Tremonti, is known as the lead guitarist of both Creed and Alter Bridge. The bass guitar player is Wolfgang van Halen. His last name probably sounds familiar and that is no coincidence. He is the son of the well-known and amazing guitar player Eddie van Halen. Wolfgang left Tremonti this year. He also plays with Van Halen and he is the youngest member of that band. Mark Tremonti founded his own band because he was writing his own songs, which were probably nothing for both Creed or Alter Bridge. He was afraid the songs he wrote would never see daylight and thus began the idea of his own band.

To be honest, I did know the name of the band, but never heard anything of them. This band was a blank page for me and I did not know what to expect. However, the first song really caught my attention. My Last Mistake is an amazing song to start the album with. The fast and deep sounding guitar parts really fit into the song. The clean singing really is a good contrast to the heavy sound of all the instruments. It blew me away and immediately made me want to listen to the entire album. It sounds really melodic. Alter Bridge guitarist Mark Tremonti has told All That Shreds that he is preparing to begin work on the fourth album from his Tremonti solo project. “After this [Alter Bridge] tour is over, I’m going to have the [other] guys [from the solo band] come to town and start writing and just kind of pick our moments to keep writing and probably get a record out next year,” he said.

Asked if he had any kind of sound or direction in mind for the next Tremonti album, Mark said: “In a perfect world, I want to kind of split it up. You know, I don’t want to get trapped into having to do heavy records all the time, because it’s something I really wanted to get out with the solo project — the heavier side of my writing — but I don’t want to completely abandon some of the melodic atmospheres of stuff, so I might want to do just like I did the last time, do two albums and have two different sounds. Have one be more atmospheric in music, acoustic, real melodic and have the other one be straight-up heavy.” Continue reading »

mark-tremonti-hugeIn a brand new interview with FaceCulture, Mark Tremonti was asked about the differences between his songwriting approach for his Tremonti solo project and that of Alter Bridge. He responded (see video below): “Alter Bridge is… it’s gotten heavier and heavier and heavier and heavier as the years have gone by. Now that I’ve gotten to do the Tremonti stuff and get heavy with the TremontiI stuff, now when I go back to Alter Bridge, I’ve kind of purged a lot of the heavy stuff and I can be more back in the Alter Bridge world, where it’s more anthemic; Alter Bridge is more epic, big songs. But Myles [Kennedy, Alter Bridge singer], over the years, has written more and more heavy stuff, so when me and Myles get together now, we’re writing heavier stuff than we ever have, but I think Alter Bridge just has… Myles can do things with his vocals that I could never do, and Alter Bridge lends itself very well to that big, epic feel. We like to leave a lot of space, we like long songs, we like to mess with our arrangements, where Tremonti is kind of more heavy, fast [and] to the point.” Continue reading »
