The Italian melodic power metal band Kalidia will release a re-recorded version of their debut album “Lies’ Device” on February 5th via Inner Wound Recordings. The re-recorded version will be released on CD, limited vinyl and digital.

The original version of “Lies’ Device” has been sold out since the release of the second Kalidia album “The Frozen Throne” (Inner Wound) in 2018, an album that brought the band to another level. Since the release of “The Frozen Throne”, it passed 2 million streams on Spotify and 5 million views on YouTube and Kalidia have toured around Europe, gaining hordes of new fans.

“Our debut album ‘Lies’ Device’ has been sold out for almost two years and since then we’ve been receiving a growing number of requests for a reissue from our fanbase. We felt that both the album and the fans deserved an improved version of the album with better and more up to date performances, production and artwork, without losing the original flavor of the album; alas a new version of the album was created. This is our tribute to celebrate our first ten years of the band!”
European power metal has become one of my favorite genres lately. Actually, power metal in general, which likely hearkens back to my childhood growing up with bands like Rainbow. At this point in the year, any power metal I review will be judged against Rise of the Hero by Iron Savior, which is one of the best I’ve heard in a long time, so there is a high standard to meet. Kalidia also have some high expectations to meet based on other bands from Italy, like Mourn in Silence and Sleeping Romance, with Sleeping Romance even being somewhat similar in style.
By now, it should be obvious that Kalidia hail from Italy and more specifically the city of Lucca which is toward the western coast and a little bit north of Pisa. The band began in 2010 with Nocoletta (vocals), Federico (guitar), Alessandro (drums) and Nicola (keyboards) and the current lineup was completed in 2012 when Roberta joined to fill the bass guitar role. Late in 2012 the band released the ep “Dance of the Four Winds” to good reviews. Lies Device, which is the debut album by Kalidia was recorded in the last four months of 2013, and not long after the beginning of 2014, Alessandro left the band and Gabriele joined to take up the role of drummer.
