German power metallers Iron Savior will release “Reforged – Riding On Fire” on December 8 via AFM Records. The disc contains re-recorded versions of the best and most popular songs Iron Savior has released so far. These 2017 re-recordings come with a much more powerful sound, of course, but the band managed to keep the songs’ original character and feel.

Iron Savior decided to re-record the material because the band’s early albums was not available anymore but a reissue was not possible due to legal reasons.

“We can’t re-release our albums from the Noise Records years in their initial form,” Iron Savior leader Piet Sielck says, “but we are free to re-record songs from these albums. We’ve approached this challenge with a lot of enthusiasm.” Continue reading »

titancraft_2016Ever since the release of Rise of the Hero in 2014 and last year’s Live at Final Frontier, Iron Savior fans have been waiting for this new studio album and Titancraft is finally here!

By now, Iron Savior likely needs little introduction.  Formed in 1996 in Germany by ex-Helloween members Pat Sielck and Kai Hansen and the drummer for Blind Guardian at the time, Thomen Stauch, Iron Savior has over the years released album after album of great power metal blending sounds from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal with sci-fi themed lyrics.  Now with Titancraft, Pat Sielck is the only remaining original member and the band is on its ninth album, the studio release following their critically acclaimed Rise of the Hero (2014).

My first exposure to Iron Savior was Rise of the Hero and that is such a fantastic album, anything the band produces after that will be judged in light of that release, which really isn’t fair to any band, especially because that album is so good.  Ok, enough of the past, on the whole, Titancraft showcases a band with talent to burn.  Pat Sielck’s vocals are crisp, clear and strong as perfect for power metal as one would want, group choruses are epic, guitar solos are great and the rhythm section is as strong as ever, delivering a great groove to the songs.  My one grip with the album is that the production while needing to be clean for the genre, seems almost too clean and to me at least, lacks some of the grit and drive found on Rise of the Hero. It took almost 20 years for German power metal masters Iron Savior to release a Live DVD/CD. The band, founded in 1996 by Piet Sielck, Kai Hansen (Gamma Ray) and Thomen Stauch (ex-Blind Guardian), has unleashed eight studio albums since then and has issued a reworked version (remixed, remastered, partly re-recorded) of their “Megatropolis” album, titled “Megatropolis 2.0” (April 2015).  With their first ever DVD Iron Savior will satisfy their fans again completely: “Live At The Final Frontier” includes the band’s recent hometown concert (Hamburg, January 2015) on DVD and 2CDs (as package in Digipak format). Additional bonus (video) material (backstage/concert) rounds off this extensive package, which is a must-have for all Iron Savior fans!

IS_Live at the final FrontierWhen a metal band has been around for 19 years, one has rather high expectations of what they can bring in a live show.  Iron Savior is one of those bands that has been around a long time and now after 19 years, they are releasing a live album recorded at a show in their hometown of Hamburg.  For those who haven’t heard of Iron Savior, you really need to change that.  Imagine a driving blend of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal sound combined with the likes of the best power metal bands, great musicianship and some exceptionally strong vocals that bring to mind Dio, Gilliam, with some Bruce Dickinson.  Live at the Final Frontier covers songs from across their career, with a bit of an emphasis on last year’s Rise of the Hero and serves as a great introduction to a great band.

Iron Savior has a rather storied history, being formed in 1996 in Hamburg, Germany by ex-Helloween members Pat Sielck and Kai Hansen and Thomen Stauch who was the drummer for Blind Guardian at the time.  The idea was to form a power metal band that would be influenced by the New Wave of British Heavy Metal in sound and have science fiction themed lyrics.  Continue reading »
