August Burns Red has dropped a reimagined version of ‘Extinct By Instinct’ .

The original version with vocals and lyrics appears on 2020’s “Guardians” album, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hard Music Albums, Rock Albums and the Vinyl Albums charts upon release. This version of the song has been stripped down and re-envisioned by the band.

Asked who August Burns Red‘s “guardians” are, vocalist Jake Luhrs told Revolver: “For the band, our guardians would be our fans. When you think of guardians, they help, right? Or they nurture or they provide. Our fans definitely do that for us. When we’re coming out with a new record, they’re buying actual copies or they’re getting all the vinyl. They come to all of our shows. We have people who have gone to 40 shows. I don’t know that I’ve ever gone to 40 shows outside of my band to go see anybody, ever. So we have these just diehard fans. They support the band. They give us a place to exist and continue our work. They genuinely care about us.

August Burns Red have been filling the metalcore scene with great music for 17 years are back with Guardians, an album filled with fast, heavy grooves, breakdowns, and thoughtful lyrics as everyone has come to expect from the Pennsylvania quintet.

Hard to believe, but August Burns Red traces their roots to Amish country in Pennslyvania, but from humble beginnings has come the heavy music machine that is ABR complete with two Grammy nominations for those looking for critical acclaim.  As if the two Grammy nominations for “Best Metal Performance” weren’t enough, the band has often garnered top reviews from the likes of Alternative Press and Kerrang. From an album perspective, the band’s debut was Thrillseeker on Solid State Records in 2005 and featured Josh McManness on vocals who left before the recording of Messengers in 2007 when Jake Luhrs took over and the band’s sound solidified. Six more albums followed including the Sleddin’ Hill of Christmas/holiday songs in 2012 and Phantom Anthem in 2017 was the last regular studio release for the band prior to Guardians. Unfortunately after only a couple of dates Covid-19 hit and the bands’ tour with Killswitch Engage and Light the Torch ended, but there is an August date still on the calendar and the band looks to be playing the legendary Furnace Fest in September.

August Burns Red‘s new song “Paramount” can be streamed below. The track is taken from the band’s upcoming eighth full-length album, “Guardians”, which will be released on April 3 via Fearless Records.

‘Paramount’ is one of my favorite songs from ‘Guardians’,” says guitarist JB Brubaker. “It has that classic ABR sound with a bunch of tempo changes and different time signatures. But there’s a recurring melody that glues the whole song together. I think this is a song that longtime fans of the band are going to love.”

Drummer Matt Greiner adds: “At times over the last several years, I felt indifferent and uninterested towards the things that used to fuel me. I learned there is actually meaning in suffering. It’s not random and without purpose. I found that the more I faced the fire, the more empathetic I became towards other people who are also hurting. I found meaning in the pain and stopped running from it. That’s what ‘Paramount’ is about.”
