The new lineup of the melodic hard rock group Faithsedge, which features singer/songwriter Giancarlo Floridia, Mr Big/Ace Frehley drummer Matt Starr, ex-Stryper bassist Timothy Gaines and former Dokken guitarist Alex De Rosso, will release its new album, “Bleed For Passion”, on July 26 via Scarlet Records (Spiritual Beast in Japan).

Produced, mixed and mastered by De Rosso, “Bleed For Passion” takes the listener back to the days of big guitars and powerful melodic vocal lines of the ’80s and early ’90s, but keeping an up to date view on the lyrics and subject matter.

The official lyric video for the album’s first single, ‘Angelic’, can be seen below. Continue reading »

Tim Gaines has confirmed that he is no longer a member of Stryper.

The musician’s exit from the band has been rumored for months, ever since Stryper guitarist Oz Fox revealed that Tim was going through a divorce, forcing the group to take a hiatus and possibly consider a future without the bassist.

In a brand new interview with KNAC.COMGaines spoke about his current status with Stryper for the first time, admitting that he was no longer involved with the openly Christian band that he played with for more than two decades.”The Stryper thing is a touchy subject right now,” Gaines said. “I can’t really elaborate on too much of it. You would probably be the first person that I would say to that I am officially no longer a member of the band. It’s been out there for about a year now that things have been going sour. It hasn’t been officially said by either myself or the band, but, yeah, I’m no longer working with them.”

restorationCombine band members with impressive resumes including the likes of Dokken and Stryper and have them play some metal in the vein of that of the late 80’s and you have Faithsedge with their third album Restoration.

Not often does a band come together with such a wide array of experience as that assembled for the third Faithsedge album.  Faithsedge started in 2011 in Southern California as the brainchild of singer/songwriter Giancarlo Floridia, who has worked with producers including Juan Crocier (Ratt), Mike Tilanca (Bowie, Foreigner), and Fabrizio Grossi (Steve Vai, Alice Cooper).  Joining Floridia this time is Alessandro Del Vecchio (Hardline) on keyboards and production, Alex De Rosso (Dokken) on guitar, Tim Gaines (Stryper) on bass and Matt Starr (Ace Frehley) on drums.

As one might imagine given the personnel, this is late 80’s metal along the lines of all the bands the various members have been in and played for. “Never a Day” starts out with one of those characteristic lone guitar riffs as so many songs from the era did, but quickly shifts into a more modern sound for the rest of the song and from a production standpoint, the sound is very full with all the instruments clear and punch, but almost seeming a bit compressed (although that could be my bad ears).  Keyboards play a bit more of a role in the sound than I was prepared for but, alas, there is that scorching guitar solo everyone was hoping for and even a section for Tim Gaines on bass to shine.
