Azusa emerges from the relatively unknown, combining members of Extol, The Dillinger Escape Plan, and Sea + Air into a frenetic, chaotic, powerful, heavy, and at times ethereal sonic blend that is everything you’d expect and more from this talent.

Asuza burst onto the scene in 2018 as a project from Christer Espevoll and David Husvik of Extol handling guitars and drums, Liam Wilson of The Dillinger Escape Plan on bass, and Eleni Zafiriadou of Sea + Air and ex-Jumbo Jet on vocals.  The result was an amazing debut filled with elements of thrash, hardcore, and pop presented in a sometimes chaotic blend of very technical metal with Eleni Eleni Zafiriadou’s beautiful and brutal vocals.  From a historical view, Christer met David at a Benea Reach show in 2014 and the two started jamming 6 months later.  During that time the two, who were The Dillinger Escape Plan fans, learned that Liam (from TDEP) was into their former band Extol and they reached out and the suddenly the band just needed a vocalist. Eventually they remembered Eleni from her time with the hardcore band Jumbo Jet and the result was Heavy Yoke.  For Loop of Yesterdays, the band was anxious to pick up where they left off and in the words of bassist Liam Wilison, “Heavy Yoke was the initial impact, Loop of Yesterdays is the aftermath.” Once again the band recorded at David Husvik’s Hawk Studios in Oslo over a series of marathon sessions that started before Heavy Yoke left the pressing plant.  Like before, Nick Terry (Turbonegro, Serena Maneesh) handled mixing giving mastering engineer Jens Bogren (Opeth, At the Gates) a lot to work with.

Azusa have released a stream of their brand new song ‘Detach’. The track appears on their upcoming album “Loop Of Yesterdays,”

The band features vocalist Eleni Zafiriadou (Sea + Air), bassist Liam Wilson (The Dillinger Escape Plan), guitarist Christer Espevoll (Extol), and drummer David Husvik (Extol).

They had this to say about the new track, “Like a smokeless fire ripping through dry grass, ‘Detach’ moves in and out of the heaviest groove Azusa has concocted thus far.

“The lyrics are a deep dive into how we accept and respond to the downward spirals life inevitably throws us all into. The track builds like a runway cleared for the maniacal solo of Testament’s Alex Skolnick to launch the listener into the stratosphere.” Listen to the song below:

Azusa‘s official music video for their latest single ‘Monument’ has now received its online premiere. The group are comprised of members and alumni of The Dillinger Escape Plan, Extol and Sea + Air. The band’s new studio album, “Loop Of Yesterdays“, will be released on April 10th 2020 through Solid State Records in North America and Asia, and through Indie Recordings everywhere else.

“‘Monument’ is a mid-tempo banger about false idols, hypocrisy, and the shortcomings of faith systems as a one-size-fits-all recipe for the ‘correct’ ways of living,” the band members explain in a joint statement. The video sees the group thrashing and contorting as they tear through the song, shrouded in smoke; in intercut footage, a mysterious robed figure worships and exalts inside a old, orthodox church.”

Azusa (featuring members of The Dillinger Escape PlanExtolSea + Air, and more) have just announced the details of their sophomore album.

The band’s new studio album, “Loop Of Yesterdays“, will be released on April 10th 2020 through Solid State Records in North America and Asia, and through Indie Recordings everywhere else.

For the upcoming album, the band found themselves returning to drummer and producer-engineer David Husvik’s Hawk Studios in Oslo, Norway to record “Loop Of Yesterdays,” which was masterminded by long-time collaborators David Husvik and guitarist Christer Espevoll, and recorded in a series of marathon sessions that started before their previous album even left the pressing plant. The band once again called upon Nick Terry [Serena ManeeshKvelertakTurbonegro] to achieve their ideal mix, a highly polished balance of punch and aggression, giving mastering engineer Jens Bogren [Opeth, At The GatesBetween The Buried And Me] a pitch he could knock out of the park. Intrigued by his ability to exist comfortably in both the jazz and metal world, the band reached out to world-class guitarist Alex Skolnick [Testament] to contribute a shredding guest solo on the track ‘Detach.’
