I must admit that I am not familiar with the music of the melodic hardcore band, Sleeping Giant, but after listening to their latest album, “Kingdom Days in an Evil Age”, I find their music to be quite inspiring and mature. The name Sleeping Giant immediately evokes the image of a malicious beast lying in wait for helpless victims; consequently, the music of this album would be an ideal soundtrack for film depicting the epic battle that takes place between Grendel and Beowulf. The name of the album does bring to mind the spiritual war that ensues between good and evil. “Evil” is so pervasive… it is all around us. Even the divine kingdom finds difficulty standing in its presence.

“Kingdom Days in an Evil Age” begins with a blast beat track entitled “Throne Room Militance.” This intro immediately hurls you into a scene filled with blood and violent screams. The piece is quick, brutal, and ends abruptly; it is followed by “Dead Men Walking” a darker track that incorporates a harsh mixture of aggressive guitars and Green’s thrash vocals. The Great Commission was born in 2008 when Angela Razo and Justin Singh disbanded Every Man For Himself in search of something more significant. TGC has their roots in Redlands, CA where they are surrounded by the spiritual influence of bands like Sleeping Giant and xDeathstarx. However, the bands they look to for guidance aren’t limited to their hometown. TGC draw musically from the bands they grew up listening to and mix the dynamics of these older, heavy, hardcore bands (including Point of Recognition, No Innocent Victim and Hatebreed) with the new school brutality of bands like Impending Doom and Acacia Strain. This combination is an essential quality that is winning fans of both new and old sounds. Below an interview with Angela & Justin.

TMR: Hello to you from´The Metal Resource’ Holland, how are things going there in California ?

A:  It is going great! Perfect 75 degrees here! Continue reading »

After coming off the Scream the Prayer tour, The Great Commission is back on the road again as headliners of the When It Rains, It Tours tour. Label-mates As Hell Retreats will also be along for the ride, as well as To Speak of Wolves and Creations.

Guitarist Angela Razo comments on the band’s past and present tour plans:

“We had a blast on the ‘Scream The Prayer Tour’. We were able to meet a lot of new fans and pray with them, and encourage the body of Christ every night. We are really looking forward to our ‘When It Rains, It Tours’ headliner. The feedback on our new album ‘Heavy Worship’ has been incredible so we are excited to be able to play a lot of our new material from the album along with some old favorites!”
