Legendary rocker Alice Cooper is gearing up for the 2020 presidential election in the only way he knows how — by running for president, something he has done satirically every four years since releasing the song ‘Elected’ back in 1972.

The Godfather of Shock Rock released a new “campaign” video for the classic track. The clip takes a lighthearted look at the process and positions Cooper as the best candidate. Running on the Wild Party ticket, Cooper‘s campaign platform speaks volumes: “I can do nothing as well as they can do nothing.”

The new video features call-backs to the original 1972 music video, in which Cooper first announced his “candidacy” and the formation of the Wild Party.

Since all eyes and ears are on this year’s heated election, Cooper‘s video administers just the right dose of levity that we all need. The song remains a tried and true anthem for modern times.

Legendary rocker Alice Cooper spoke to Finland’s Kaaos TV about how he is dealing with the coronavirus crisis and what the touring circuit might look like post-pandemic.

“I think what they’re saying now is at the beginning of 2021, they’re gonna have a vaccine for everybody,” Alice said. “But I think that when this coronavirus runs its course — ’cause it will; it will finally die out — I can’t imagine why people would not go back to what they used to do, [which is] go to concerts. Because the monster’s gone. Why worry about him now? He’s gone. So everything should go back to what it was. But I still think it’s probably a good idea to get a vaccination for it.

“The good thing about rock tours is that everybody is off right now, and everybody is gonna go back on tour,” he added. “I mean, there’s nobody sitting there going, ‘Oh, I’m never gonna tour again.’ We all can’t wait to get back on tour. We’re like racehorses ready to run.”

Legendary rocker Alice Cooper has released a new single, ‘Don’t Give Up‘. Produced by Bob Ezrin using remote technology, the song is a spontaneous reaction to the challenges facing us all right now.

Cooper felt the need to talk directly to his fans from isolation in his home where he is working to finish his upcoming new album. It is Alice‘s shout-out to keep our heads high, stay strong and fight back together.

Says Cooper: “‘Don’t Give Up’ is out today. It’s a song about what we’ve all been going through right now and about keeping our heads up and fighting back together. And whatever you do — don’t give up.”

Alice Cooper has told Rolling Stone that he will use the downtime from having his North American tour postponed to work on new music.

“While our management is working to reschedule the postponed shows, I’m going to finish work on my next album, which is nearly done,” he said. “At least now I won’t be squeezing in vocal recording sessions on days off, between shows. I don’t like a lot of time off, as anyone who sees my schedule already knows, but a little extra time at home can be re-energizing.”

Cooper‘s latest release — the six-track “Breadcrumbs” EP, described as a tribute to the garage-rock heroes of his hometown of Detroit — was released in September via earMUSIC.
