As best put by Relevant Magazine, Sleeping Giant has been “rewriting the definition of what it means to be Christians in a metal band.” Expressing their beliefs through their music, vocalist Tommy Green takes this a step further with the release of his audio book, Religio-cide on September 27th.
Green explains, “Within the last couple of years I started putting together a book designed for kids that would be at a Sleeping Giant show who may have an interest in a relationship with God, but not know where to go from there.” Written in the form of a guide, the goal is to help encourage those who may be interested in God, but not necessarily in attending Church or being tagged as a ‘Christian’.
When on stage with Sleeping Giant , Green often speaks about his family and his own personal history involving abuse, divorce and brokenness among other things. He knows first hand how easily it is to feel disconnected, and uses his personal experiences to offer counsel. In addition to providing guidance through his book and Sleeping Giant shows, Green is also the founder and pastor of Revolution Reality Ministries, a small Salt Lake City based group he shepherds when Sleeping Giant is not on tour.
The physical version of Religio-cide was self-published by Green and is currently available. On September 27th, the audio book will be available exclusively through Ain’t No Grave Records on iTunes for $7.99.
Green states, “I wrote Religio-cide for people like me. It’s very easy to get trapped inside religious stereotypes and I hope that this can encourage people to freely pursue a real, spiritual relationship with God and not get so caught up in ‘religion’.”
