Rogue Anthem – “Memory Eternal” (ep)

Thumper Punk Records has released a 3 song ep of previously unreleased songs from the OC punk outfit Rogue Anthem as a benefit for the family of singer Myke Augustat who passed away in 2012.

The debut album by Rogue Anthem, What to Believe, was released at a benefit show for the Augustat Family in November 2012.  Tragically, singer, guitar player and founder, Myke Augustat (ex-Call to Glory) passed away earlier in the summer of 2012.  Rogue Anthem was founded to carry a message to the forgotten and the underdog, a message railing against the evils of society today from materialism to greed to apathy.  As was the case with the album, all profits from the album will be donated to the Augustat family, the wife and three children who miss Myke every day.

Given the “OC punk” label, one has certain expectations on what is to come and Rogue Anthem doesn’t disappoint, fitting nicely into that sub-genre.  Loud, raucous punk rock with a positive message characterizes “False Reality” and is the kind of song that would grab your attention if you were passing by and heard this…you’d have to stop and check out the band.  “The Calling” continues in the same in the vein, starting out with a nice, slower, feedback-drenched opening before picking up to circle pit speed and a great sing-along section.  The closing track, “Another City Falling” shows a more melodic side to the band and in keeping with the authentic nature of the recording, is a bit rougher from a production side.  If you liked Rogue Anthem before this is a good addition to What to Believe and if you haven’t heard them before, this ep serves as a good introduction to their brand of OC punk.
