Southern California juggernauts Impending Doom have entered The Machine Shop [Suicide Silence, Lamb Of God] in Belleville, NJ this week to start working on their next LP with producer Will Putney. Bass player David Sittig weighs in on where the band stands in the process:

“The material is our best and heaviest work without a doubt. The chemistry between the five of us this time has been different and very unique. Our original guitarist Manny Contreras re-joined the band and we all could not be happier with what he has brought to the table. This is the Impending Doom album you have been waiting for!”

This untitled new effort will be the band’s followup to “Baptized in Filth”. The band toured extensively for that record including last year’s Metal Alliance Tour. Their singles “Murderer” and “Deceiver” became highly successful music videos.

“Baptized In Filth”, the fourth full-length album from Impending Doom, sold 4,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 106 on The Billboard 200 chart.

“Baptized In Filth” was released on March 13, 2012. The CD was produced by Andreas Magnusson [The Black Dahlia Murder, The Famine] and was mixed by Machine, who has previously worked with Lamb Of God, Suicide Silence amd Demon Hunter, among others.

Enter Per Fredrik “PelleK” Asly, a brilliant Norwegian musician and composer. After the success of his “Bag of Tricks” album in 2012, he comes back stronger than ever with a full ensemble of great musicians to bring us to the essence of this review, his latest release, “Ocean of Opportunity”. PelleK has this to say about his latest work inside the cd cover,”…this album truly marks the beginning of a new era. I have spent the last twelve months traveling and researching geography and the world’s cultural differences in order to take you on a unique journey of revelation, self-realization and ultimate fulfillment.”

By any account, this is a massive release, its epic and unique compositions are flawlessly executed, and put this album not only ahead of the game, but places this album and the band as one of the best things the progressive metal / power metal scene has to offer. In short they are poised for greatness if they continue along this path, and do not drop the ball. This is a concept album, but fear not, this is one of those concepts you can play all day long. This will genuinely not tire on me for some time. Also the adventure setting cover features talented artist Jan Yrlund (Manowar) which captures, and is an extension of the whole album experience, as it evokes a picture of a epic adventure ahead, which once laying your ears upon the music within is exactly that. As the title reflects “Ocean of Opportunity”, truly for myself, daily setting sail into the ocean before me I see an ocean of opportunity for me out there.

From the start it lays down a powerful and engaging atmosphere. There is an arsenal of instruments been used here, and with the great compositions and brilliant musicianship this album for all counts is one of the best albums I have heard out of this genre in a long time, period. It seamlessly mixes elements of the symphonic with the progressive. PelleK‘s vocal range and clarity are one of the highlights of the album, and again helps assist in the overall strength and quality of the release. One of the many highlights on the album come from the great orchestral pieces which are arranged by PelleK guitarist, Patrick Fallang and PelleK himself.

The album starts with what could be a sound track out of an adaptation of a fantasy adventure film like Narnia, “Elucidation” is a phenomenal introduction to the album, great orchestral arrangements highlight the “adventure” quality of the song, and complimented with some fantastic guitar work. There is a lead guitar bit towards the end that blew my mind, and the song ends very dramatically and powerfully, just as it started. “American Noise” starts with a beautiful piano piece, and PelleK voice is strong and powerful, and the song has this big screen movie soundtrack feel again. Again this album is so well packaged, to be honest I don’t think there are many albums that are this well done over the whole product. “American Noise” should sound awesome in a big arena setting. “Northern Wayfarer” is my favorite track by far, again great vocals, awesome lead guitar work, and driven fueled powerful galloping drumming that keeps the pace adventurous and big. Love the orchestral arrangements throughout, giving it a very dramatic appeal, and love that it goes through a number of movements, each engaging as the next, giving a very dramatic and engaging appeal. Love the chorus singing towards the end as it moves through one of its many movements. 10/10 for this reviewer, and haha, love the brief piano ending, classic!

Again the ocean adventure continues “Sea of Okhotsk” starts again with a beautiful piano piece before storming into a progressive power metal whirlwind of outstanding musical brilliance. Again this is a song that is filled with great everything, its big and powerful, and PelleK just keeps surprising with his brilliant vocal talent. “Brigantine Of Tranquility” – Okay, I feel as I am just repeating myself, because each song is of such high quality, and PelleK has an endless bag of quality tricks in his vocals. Its an awesome song again. “Gods Pocket”, starts with a very uplifting feel, its bouncy and happy and full of life, and sounds like something out of a high quality musical. “Stars and Bulletholes” filled with great musical arrangements, guitar work, and some great drumming, again showing the talent that seems endless in PelleK, the band works so well together, and capture the sense of adventure and fantasy so well. “Sky Odyssey” is filled with big arrangements that waltz out at you, “ Transmigration” is another great work, and they finish strongly with “The Last Journey” which ends the journey wonderfully, and leaving one wanting more.

Conclusion – Ocean of Opportunity visualizes through music the true portrayal of the spirit of adventure, that holds your attention from start to finish, and through imaginative and innovative story telling, like a good book that you just cannot put down, had me listening through in one seating, and desiring for more when it finished. One can see a lot of effort, research, time, passion and love was put into it, and the end result of all of that is something that PelleK can be really proud of. My one concern is that when an album is this strong, how the hell do improve on it, and thus creates a very high bar of standard to replicate or exceed next time round. I know this, as with my own band we created a song that was so much better than the rest, that to sit down and create something on that same level or beyond, is so difficult, though not impossible. So PelleK if you read this, I am super excited for your next piece of work, this is a job well done!. In closing a highly recommend this release to anyone who has any sense of what high musical quality is all about and who has a sense of adventure and a love for big music.

Fallstar, an unrestrained group of artists and musicians who draw just as much inspiration from their local punk and hardcore scene as they do from their hometown in general. “Our city is known for its global perspective, sustainable living, care for the homeless, and having ideas that challenge long-standing traditions and beliefs. So we’ve developed this way of thinking that is energized by our doubts and ideas. We’re a west coast band, we’re relaxed and not afraid of new things.”

Fallstar love the mercurial atmosphere of a live show, and so write true to their genre with sing-alongs and crowd participation. The influences of hardcore and metal are there, but they aren’t restrictive. The band spends countless hours layering and composing their songs to achieve the balance they desire. “Our music isn’t incredibly technical, so there’s lots of room for swinging guitars, jumping off things, chipped teeth and stitches.”

The band made its Facedown Records debut last month [April 16] with their album “Backdraft”. Check out the brand new video for “Drags, Drugs, And Bones” below.

Another band for CRN 2013 is: Knoxville [USA] based rock-metal band Disciple. These men are no stranger on this German festival. Their latest album “O God Save Us All” is the ninth critically acclaimed album which was released Nov 13, 2012 via Fair Trade Services. Check our review here.

Christmas Rock Night has been very well known for many years in Europe, due to the unprecedented strong rock/metal-programming. A rising number of Dutchmen find their way to the festival. Ennepetal is located in the Ruhrgebied, two hours from Utrecht and about one hour of the border and so it is good to reach with the car.

The song is taken from their upcoming debut album “From Ashes To Fire”.

Their debut album “From Ashes To Fire” will be released tomorrow, May 17th in Europe and North America. Perfect for fans of Rainbow, Dio, Van Halen, Black Sabbath and Whitesnake. Saffire are inspired by the 70′s and 80′s rock and metal bands like Rainbow, Dio, Whitesnake, Van Halen and Black Sabbath. The sound of Saffire can be described as a mix of those bands with a progressive twist, something that makes them stand out in the scene.

The debut album From Ashes To Fire was mixed by Fredrik Nordström & Henrik Udd at Studio Fredman [At The Gates, In Flames, Hammerfall] and mastered by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios [Symphony X, Opeth, Kreator]. Needles to say, the production on “From Ashes To Fire” is excellent. The artwork for the album was created by Anders Fästader at A Trailermade Production [H.E.A.T., Hardcore Superstar, The Poodles].

Victor Olssons intelligent songwriting and impressive guitar playing together with the bands excellent musicianship and the powerful and emotional vocals from Tobias Jansson, Saffire is a dangerous five piece with an exciting future ahead of them.

With their vocalist facing a lengthy prison sentence, the rest of the band have decided to lay low, rather than push on with a replacement.

Said his bandmates in a statement:

To our fans,

In light of recent events, As I Lay Dying will unfortunately not be taking part in the upcoming tour with Killswitch Engage. Given the circumstances, we feel that it is best for the band to be off the road while the current situation gets sorted. We’d like to thank all of our fans for their ongoing support at this difficult time.

-Jordan, Nick, Phil, and Josh

The future of their permanent vocalist Tim Lambesis, and the future of the band itself depend on a judges verdict Monday, 10th June. If found guilty of hiring a hitman to murder his estranged wife, Lambesis could face 9 years behind bars.

Lambesis’ lawyer Anthony Salerno will be arguing that his client was “sort of set up”, revealing that his estranged wife’s brother was a San Diego sheriff’s deputy, which is “at the bare minimum very coincidental, and it may be more than that”

***

Killswitch Engage commented: “Since As i Lay Dying has announced they will not be able to join us on this tour…we would like to welcome Darkest Hour, and The Word Alive on the Disarm the Descent 2013 US TOUR. Please welcome both bands with open arms, ROCK!”

Lucky for you, it’s hope that wins out in the debut full-length release from punk rock powerhouse, False Idle. This most recent release is a call-to-arms, an anthem for the unknown in a world in decline. With melodic overtones reminiscent of Rise Against, and a breakneck drive like Anti-Flag, Threat has something for everyone. Borrowing the mastering magic of Jason Livermore of the Blasting Room, this is a punk rock album that shows a much more mature False Idle.

After releasing 2 EP’s, respectively Hymns of Punk Rock Praise, and the I Refuse EP, Threat is a poke in the eyeball of this comfortable, complacent American society. With musical influences as dynamic and unique as the members themselves, False Idle has crafted a collection of songs touching on societal issues like greed, the corruption of politics and media, and even much more personal and poignant issues in family. But there’s nothing like unity, brotherhood, and ineffable hope to balance out the ugliness in the world. Front-man Sef Idle digs deep on his 15+ years of punk rock, delivering an in-your-face challenge to live for more. Sef has teamed up again with fellow uniSEF bandmate and guitarist, Tyler Lewis, as well as veteran drummer, Phil Harris, and bassist, Seth Warren to experiment and push the boundaries both musically and thematically of mainstream punk rock.

False Idle has been steadily asking more of themselves, and it shows in the music and the song writing. Wholeheartedly abandoning the monotony of typical 1-4-5 punk with songs like “On Tomorrow”, “A Tension”, and “Façade”, False Idle keeps the listener on their toes. With unexpected chord structures and purposefully erratic rhythms, Threat is already receiving attention. Indie Vision Music, The Metal Resource, Jesus Freak Hideout, and even HM Magazine have taken notice of False Idle’s previous releases. With plans for a summer/fall tour of the West Coast, as well as many local shows, False Idle has honed their live shows into an experience that doesn’t disappoint.

To sum it up, Threat is an album that will leave you demanding more than the status quo, knowing that we’re not alone in this fight. We stand together in the face of the “acceptable” and draw a line in the sand against the American norm. It’s time to fight for what we all believe!!

“Threat is a stampede of punk rock assault, that oozes buckets of spiky hair, studded jackets, Doc Marten-wearing punk rock. It sets the bar very high, and certainly puts it as a strong contender for Christian punk album of the year.” Donovan de Necker (JCHC Slam and Dance Show).

They released their first ‘selftitled’ EP last March, and also a lyric video for “When Love Gave Hate A Headshot”, which can be viewed below. We had the honor to be the first to interview these gentlemen:

TMR: Hello guys this is´The Metal Resource’ from Holland, how are things going there in Germany?

Summer has finally arrived, so things are going great!

TMR: Will you Introduce yourself and the line-up please [name and instrument]

I am Eddy, i play guitar and do a bit of vocals. Dave plays the drums. Dominik plays the bass. Delta is our vocalist and Stefan plays guitar.

TMR: Tell us the brief history of ‘Raised From Death’.

My friend Dominik and i startet RFD in 2008. We practiced some Riffs and put them together to bigger parts wich ended up being the first songs. A short while after that, our first drummer and friend “Daddy” joined us and some more months after that we asked our friend Delta to jam with us and try if it would work out with him doing vocals for us. Fun times back then because everyone just startet playing this style of music. In this formation we startet playing shows in 2010 and continued till early 2011 when Daddy had to leave the band and move away because of his new job. There was only one guy we thought about who could jump in to fill his place and that was Dave. Meanwhile i got to know Stefan and told him about RFD and asked him to think about playing guitar for us. They both joined in 2011. It was a new start for us, the new boys had to learn all the songs and we practiced and worked hard as a band. We had enough time to work and to progress because we had only a few opportunities to play live. Right after our little break it was like you have to introduce yourself to the musicscene once again as a band, thats why it went really slow with our gigs. In the end of 2012 we finally were able to record our work with all our songs on to a record wich is our first selftitled EP, we released it 25th of February this year together with our single “When Love Gave Hate A Headshot” as a musicvideo. Since then we really feel like people take notice of what we do and its way easyer to connect with the musicscene wich is awesome because thats what we want to do !

TMR: Are you guys full time musicians ? If not what kind of job or school do you do beside the band ?

No we aren´t…Dave goes to school, Dominik is a theology undergraduate, Delta works in a job as a driver, Stefan is about to take his final exams for his law studies this year and i am working as a guitarteacher right now.

TMR: What is your musical background ? [for everyone personal]

Dominik: My musical background is the hardcore scene.
Dave: Hardcore scene.
Stefan: Worship/Metalcore.
Delta: Hardcore / Metalcore , Ambient / Experimental
Eddy: All kinds of guitar music.

TMR: Why the name ‘Raised From Death’ ? Is there a story behind it ?

We wanted a name thats powerful and that holds our conviction in it. It had to sound like the bands statement! It also had to define the bands message of gods love for people and his ability to change lifes for today. For us the event of Jesus resurrection is the most important one in history for all time and for everyone because it brought new life, thats what we recieved by grace and thats what we want to bring to those who need hope, forgiveness and a new life. It all summed up for us ( back then it was just Dominik and me ) in the name “RAISED FROM DEATH”.

TMR: Who writes the music/lyrics in ‘Raised From Death’ ? … how do you get in the mood for writing music? And which bands/situations have influences you for writing music and lyrics ?

From the beginning it was mostly me that came up with the first ideas and structures of songs. Its like i made most of the building bricks and then we build the song thogether as a band. The lyrics were things or topics God put on my heart or just things we wanted to tell people or something we wanted to tell God, like in a time of worship. All of those are kind of combined in our lyrics. The first lyrics ever written were the ones for “Break My Pride”´s Chorus, Daddy wrote them and started the lyrical concept for this song with that. In these days the dynamics for songwriting develop and everyone is coming up with more building bricks for songs and concepts, wich is a new and awesome process for us as a band !

TMR: How do you describe the music of ‘Raised From Death’ the best ?

To speak in genres i gues our music is hardcore/metalcore with some deathcore and ambient elements right now. We love to experiment with elements of those genres and refine them to create something new with a lot of surprising moments to make our music as powerfull as we can! We want to make something authentic and honest that comes from our hearts.

TMR: How does ‘Raised From Death’ stands in life till events in the world, religion and politics and in which proportion stands that till your music and lyrics ?

We think the topics in our songs would matter the same, even in another time or place then here and now.

TMR: For a lot of bands the lyrics are just a accidental circumstance, but for some bands they use them to communicate ! ..can you tell us how that is for ‘Raised From Death’ ?

Definately communication for us ! They carry our message.

TMR: Is there already a highlight you will always remember, since the beginning of ‘Raised From Death’ ?

We are thankful for a lot of good things and highlights that happend to us, especially during the last year. The latest one was our CD-Releaseshow ! So many people came and celebrated with us, it was wild! For the first time we heard the crowd sing along the lyrics so loud ! Video of that is coming soon…

TMR: And the worst thing were ? [if there is one]

So far nothing happend that we would call the worst thing or something like that.

TMR: The last album you bought? [for everyone personal]

Album: Band:
Dominik: Truth And Purpose I The Breather
Dave: Convictions The Crimson Armada
Stefan: Impulse Erra
Delta: Get What You Give The Ghost Inside
Eddy: Pack Of Wolves Days Of Despite

TMR: What makes you laugh? [for everyone personal]

Dominik: The Big Bang Theory, Then I love to have fun with the other band members.
At the last show, we visited a castle. That was very funny!
Dave: Farts, The Big Bang Theory, Teddy Comedy
Stefan: The Big Bang Theory
Delta: Long and loud farts.
Eddy: Delta!

TMR: What are your rehearsals generally like? Do you have a set time each week in which you practice or are rehearsals more spontaneous?

Practice is once a week, sometimes twice. Things we do are: Practicing the set for our next show with liveperformance, writing new songs, having a time of prayer and worship, talking about organasational matters, spending time with each other while eating and talking about personal stuff.

TMR: Where have you performed recently? What are your favorite and least favorite venues?

Recently we played a show at the “A Chance For Metal” festival in our hometown here in Andernach. Our favorite venues are the ones with a bigger stage so we have enough space to move, but we play anywhere and anytime, it doesen´t matter what venues look like.

TMR: How do you promote your band and shows ?

We have some merchandising articles we sell at shows and through the internet. The internet is the biggest tool for us to promote the band, especially Facebook and Youtube. To promote our CD-Releaseshow we handed out flyer in our area too.

TMR: How do you prepare for a show? [for everyone personal]

Dominik: I warm up, stretch my legs and pray to God for a nice show.
Dave: Pray with my band and mosh arround.
Stefan: praying, stretching, hang out with my bandmates.
Delta: Breathing and stretching exercises, prayer.
Eddy: Warm up, prayer, thinking about the words I will speak later on.

TMR: Describe your show, visual and musically ? And tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.

There is a lot of movement going on with a big dynamic range in music. It is real, us expressing ourselfs through music. It is passionate, powerful and even if its not your favorite genre, it is entertaining !

TMR: Which songs do you perform most frequently? Do you ever play any covers? Do you have a set play list?

If there is enough time we play our whole set wich is exactly our songs in the same order like on our record, if there isn´t we have to cancel one or two songs. No covers.

TMR: What is your favourite ‘Raised From Death’ song to play live ? [for everyone personal]

Dominik: Martyr is a lifestyle is my favourite song.
It´s easy to play, so I can go ballistic for the show.
Dave: Break My Pride
Stefan: Martyr Is A Lifestyle
Delta: Refuse The Fear Of Men
Eddy: Your Beauty

TMR: Name some of your favourite bands to play with live [past and future] and tell us why ?

We hope to play more often with hardcore bands from our region and a dream would come true if one day we could play together with For Today or August Burns Red. We love those bands.

TMR: What is the dumbest question you have ever been asked? [for everyone personal]

There is none : )

TMR: Do you have a life philosophy / favorite quote ? [for everyone personal]

Dominik: —
Dave: Stay smooth but stick to your guns. Bakestone
Stefan: give, love, share, revive
Delta: Don´t just talk about it, do it
Eddy: Know God and make him known

TMR: Are you visiting many gigs and what do you listen to these days? [for everyone personal]

Dominik: The last show I visited was the August Burns Red and The Devil Wears Prada Tour. At the moment I love to hear Volumes. Other Bands I can hear all the time are Architects, Oh Sleeper or The Devil Wears Prada.
Dave: Local Hardcore shows. Hardcore music.
Stefan: I prefer to visit other local hardcore-gigs in our region
Delta: Yes. Both. Local and bigger shows. At the moment I am listening to: For Today, The Ghost Inside and Dayseeker.
Eddy: Since one and a half year only local shows. Letters to the exiles, Dayseeker, Gideon
and a lot of Jazz & Blues music.

TMR: Tell us about the hardrock/metal scene in your area please?

There are many new great bands that get better and learn very fast in a short period of time. More and more new bands value a professional recording and so the quality standart went up over the last years wich is awesome because we love to hear good recordings of bands we know! We hope to build more relationships with other bands in our local scene.

TMR: What’s your outlook on the record industry today?

We do not really have any experience with the industry but like everyone else we noticed that it changed and it probably will change even more in future.

TMR: What can you tell us about your just released self-titled debut EP [such as the recording proces, the songs, who did the artwork, label etc ?]

Our first EP, finally! It took a long while for the songs to land on a record and thats why we refined them all again before we went to the studio. We decided on the Pitchback-studios in Cologne, owned by Aljoscha Sieg, because we had the impression that they are the ones that could help us to get the right sound for our songs and that happend to be right! The artwork is done by Axl Hoffmann Illustration & Design who already did a great job on our logo and shirtdesign before!
This is all produced and released without a label. You can get the CD at our shows or via internet. We do our best to promote this record by ourselfs to as many people as possible, so you can get the MP3 at iTunes and AmazonMP3! Its awesome to see that people pick up the CD which is a great support for us!

TMR: Do you have any upcoming shows?

Yes! We are greatful for getting more chances to play shows since our EP is out! We are always looking for gig opportunities and hope to get more! Check out our Facebook to see the upcoming dates and places we play. It would be awesome to play in Holland someday !

TMR: What are your plans for this year/near future? [New full lenght/European tour maybe?]

For this year we want to play as many shows as possible, write new songs and material as good as we can and promote our record and the band as good as possible! For 2014 it would be awesome if we could record and release a new record, an album would be awesome, maybe with a label that supports us and we hope to play more shows all over germany and europe!

TMR: What advice would you give to fellow bands?

Come to see a Raised From Death show!

TMR: Guys thanks for your time and the interview, we wish ‘Raised From Death’ all the best … Is there anything you wanna say at last? [any final statement

Thanks for this opportunity!!! That was our first interview! Cool! Come to see us live! You won´t regret it! Promise!

Much love,

Israeli progressive folk metal masters Orphaned Land will release their sixth full-length album, “All Is One”, in North America on June 25 [one day earlier internationally] via Century Media Records. The cover artwork for the follow-up to 2010′s “The Never Ending Way Of ORwarriOR” was created by the French artist Metastazis [Paradise Lost, As I Lay Dying, Sonne Adam & Watain] by perfectly incorporating the three biggest religious symbols into one piece of art.

The lyric video for “Our Own Messiah” can be viewed below.
Commented Orphaned Land singer Kobi Farhi: “I’ll say it plain and simple — ‘All Is One’ is Orphaned Land‘s best album so far. I feel that we took all aspects to a new level — the way we write, arrange, play and produce.

“We recorded the album in three countries [Turkey, Sweden and Israel] and it turned out so strong, we can’t stop listening to it.

“The album is very rich in sound, with more than 40 people participating (choirs, violins, and many traditional instruments, too).

“Our secret recipe was always the fact that unlike many other bands, Orphaned Land doesn’t follow ONE master mind that writes everything; we work in a way that ‘all is one.’ We create our music in a perfect blend of synergy and harmony and all the band members are a part of this process. We translate the album’s title and message exactly in the way we work, and we always hope we could give a bit of an inspiration to the people in the tragic Middle Eastern lands.

“We have fans all over the Middle East. We live in a place where huge amounts of people who consider themselves enemies still share one thing in common, they are all fans of Orphaned Land, and in these lands of orphans and bloody holy wars, our only weapon is music, and hopefully we will grow to understand that ‘all is one.’”

Orphaned Land‘s forthcoming effort will be the band’s first to feature guitarist Chen Balbus following the departure of Matty Svatizky in June 2012 due to “personal” and “professional” issues.

From September to November, Orphaned Land will play stages all over Europe in support of “All Is One” — but before heading out on this headlining tour, Orphaned Land will play a few festivals and shows in South America and Europe. All dates & locations are listed below.

“The Never Ending Way Of ORwarriOR” sold around 600 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at No. 80 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

“The Never Ending Way Of ORwarriOR” was released in Europe on January 25, 2010.

Orphaned Land‘s concert DVD, “The Road To OR-Shalem”, was released in October 2011 in Europe and November 2011 in the U.S. via Century Media Records.
