Norwegian legendary death metallers Extol are back with their first single “Open The Gates”. The song is taken from the upcoming self titled album “Extol”. The record will be released in June through Indie Recordings in Europe and through Facedown Records in North America. The new song can be streamed below.
According to a press release, Extol‘s new CD “is a like a complex metallic alloy. The playfulness of the songs and the brutal bonding of genres are transformed into a fusion of atmospheric and harmonic prog rock, merged with the tempered thrash and death metal that Extol so uniquely master. This album leads us straight to the core of Extol.”
Comments Extol drummer David Husvik: “‘Extol’ is the album that was planned all the way, but never materialized. Partly due to changes in the lineup, but also because of the band´s urge to always reach for something new. The album is the recap of 20 years of Extolhistory, both musically and lyrically.”
With a long-awaited creative collaboration with Jens Bogren [Opeth, Paradise Lost, Enslaved] and some truly magnificent artwork byTravis Smith [Katatonia, Opeth, Death], Extol has managed to create a timeless masterpiece and the vision of the band seems clearer than ever.
Earlier this month, the band revealed the final DVD title: “Ever since production started on this documentary, we’ve been using the working title “Extol – a documentary”. We always knew we were going to change this, and today is the day. The new, official and final title of this documentary is; “Extol: of light and shade”. The title reference the song from the album ‘Undeceived’ released back in 2000, and captures the essence of the story we are telling in this documentary”. Read more about the DVD at this location.
The band has released four studio albums and two EPs. The band is noted for its precise, technical musicianship. The fourth album, The Blueprint Dives, received Spellemannsprisen nomination for best metal album of 2005. Extol has toured the US and Europe several times with such bands as Mastodon, God Forbid and Opeth. Collectively, Extol has sold over 500,000 CDs worldwide.
