Pantokrator band_2014Last Saturday it was time for Mauce.nl Fest. in celebration of the 10th anniversary of The Metal Resource, the festival took place in Almelo at Naxt Stage, the city where it all began 10 years ago.

Performing bands were: Pantokrator (SE), My Silent Wake (UK), The Royal (NL), La-Ventura (NL), Undawn (NL), The Memory Remains (NL) and Empire of the Wolves (NL).

Pantokrator‘s version of ‘Awesome God’ was released on May 6th. (when the band celebrated International Listen to Pantokrator Day, not a joke, a holiday celebrated by their fans). The song is being released as a stand-alone single and is widely known and sung among Christians, the original made famous by the penman Rich Mullins. metanoia fest 2015Much more than just a festival, Metanoia Fest is a great meeting of friends, and the sense of brotherhood it was not different this year.

To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the festival, Metanoia Fest 2015 brought many surprises on stage to the audience. There were special meetings of bands that ended their career, the return of participants of previous editions and the debut of some groups on stages of Espírito Santo, Brazil. And for the first time the festival took place at the traditional Correria Music Bar (CMB), one of the best options in this country to enjoy a good sound alongside friends.

At first there were 16 presentations scheduled, splitted between April 3rd and April 4th; however, the bands Godknockdown (São Paulo, Brazil) and Skymetal (Minas Gerais, idem) – both would play on Saturday – cancelled their presentations. Continue reading »

freakstock 2014 smallThe time of summer festivals was here again. With Flevo festival and all its descendants gone this year it was empty in the Dutch ‘Christian’ summer festival season. Luckily we can depend on yet another year of Freakstock in Germany not far over the border. For us the fifth time we attend. Yet again this year brings a great line-up with music, art, seminars and more. Freakstock always feels like coming home.

In Vain OberhausenIt has been a little over two months since Borknagar toured Europe together with four other bands, including In Vain. They did not have a concert in the Netherlands unfortunately. They did however perform just across the border in Oberhausen, Germany. When I arrived, it took me a while to get used to club Helvete. It looks like a large English pub that is transformed into a metal café rather than the typical music venues one sees in the Netherlands. The stage is rather small, but that comes with the advantage that you can get so close to the band members that you can almost touch them.In Vain 2

My phone display shows it’s 20 minutes to nine, perfectly acceptable given that I had to have a 2-hour ride (I don’t live that close to the border). Unfortunately though, Shade Empire, the first act of the evening, starts playing their last song just when I enter the venue. Since one song is obviously way too little for me to make a valuable comment about them, I won’t. way too little for me to make a valuable comment about them, I won’t. It’s about 8 o’ clock when  Ereb Altor starts playing. You can’t help but notice that this Swedish band brought their face paint, which makes their appearance somewhat similar to the Dutch band Slechtvalk. Continue reading »
